Breaking down The Alchemist and ScHoolboy Q's lead single 'Ferraris In The Rain' for producer's upcoming LP
Last week, Alan The Alchemist gave fans the first look at his upcoming THE GENUINE ARTICULATE album by dropping the official lead single for his project titled Ferraris In The Rain (Feat. ScHoolboy Q).
The record was distributed to streaming services alongside an official music video live streamed on The Alchemist's YouTube channel on September 10, 2024. The visualizer, directed by New High Filmz, features both artists performing the track around luxury cars like Ferrari's and Maybach's.
Alan's production of Ferraris In The Rain draws inspiration from jazz, as seen from the interesting drum sequences and samples used in its composition. ScHoolboy Q's performance complements the track's low-tempo progressions. Notable themes this record delves into have been listed below:
- Success
- Status
- Luxury
- Excess
- Lifestyle
- Wealth
- Intimacy

(Verse)
"Look, I whip the 'Rari in the rain / Ice in my veins, I'm sippin' on Bacardi straight / Just gettin' started, a Harley 8 (Uh) / Icin' all on me, I'm a birthday party cake (Happy birthday) / I'm blowin' out your candles / They hike the ball to me, I'm the quarterback, I know about the scramble"
Alan starts the song off with bars that flex a luxurious and excessive lifestyle, with references to expensive jewelry and luxury cars.
The introduction is interesting as the artist blends his flow and cadence to the tempo of the track, while also establishing his status and presence in the music industry.
"I be guardin' sixty seconds flat (Out here) / I'm a vintage stepper, Stacy Adams shoes with a Stetson hat (Yeah) / Don't make me come out of my stage ensemble (Do it) / My latеst combo, danced on the work, did the macarеna and the mambo / I slide electric, worldwide respected (Uh)"
The Alchemist continues with his sports references from the last bar, calling himself a "vintage stepper," which alludes to his more than a decade-long hip-hop career given he began recording music back in 2007.
He also makes references to American clothing brands Stacy Adams, a company that design dress shoes for me, and Stetson, who are well known for designing cowboy hats and fedora's.
"The method's been tried and tested / Chew on the track but this stomach acid digested / Luther prepare a naked section and then I dressed it / You puttin' lipstick on the pig, can't slap a bow on the bum / Wrap a ribbon around his wig and make him crisp (The f--k you doin', man?)"
Alc's bars and vocal performances get more aggressive, with the music video capturing the producer seated in a Mercedes Maybach, performing for the camera.
The Alchemist speaks on his status once again with a sense of defiance against those criticizing him and his talent. Several culinary references make an appearance on this bar, highlighting the producer's lyrical ability and creative proficiency.
"I'm a genuine article (Uh) / The jammy's a food processor, it'll blend you into particles / Inside a venue, I'm Spartacus (Me) / I'm the finisher, you still working with a starter kit (Come on) / That boy is buggin', he got bars to spit"
The producer then makes a sly reference to his upcoming album, THE GENUINE ARTICULATE, by referring to himself as a "genuine article".
He continues by drawing comparisons to himself and the Thracian gladiator, Spartacus, who is well known for playing a major role in the uprising against the Roman Republic.
(Chorus)
"Rain, rain, take the pain away (Ayy, yeah, yeah) / White thing off a layaway (White, yeah) / Four-five, who gon' fade away? (Pew, pew, pew) / On God, who gon' play today? Hmm, yeah"
The intro to the hook, similar to the start of Rain Rain Go Away, finds Q wishing for his "pain" to be washed away while speaking on themes like intimacy, competition, and success.
"The Rolls grill, is that the pearly gates? The big clock, it got the bumper face (Face) / Hmm, the all-whites, I got s--t to say (Say) / Fell out the sky, s--t to say, hmm"
The hook ends with ScHoolboy Q metaphorically comparing driving a Rolls Royce to the feeling of walking through the "pearly gates" of heaven. Most of the lyrics here seemingly reference themes of luxury, introspection, and status.
The song ends with an outro featuring a conversation between ScHoolboy Q and The Alchemist about the current state of rap. In the dialogue, the rapper expresses his enduring "love for the game" while offering words of caution to aspiring artists, hinting at the darker side of the music industry.
