Popular internet personality and American podcaster DJ Akademiks is known for being a fan and supporter of Drake. In a recent live stream on his channel, Akademiks hinted at Drizzy releasing new music. Additionally, the podcaster mentioned the same in a tweet on July 9, 2024, stating:
"All u n****s who been acting like Drake finished... bookmark this tweet for 6 months from now. We dont want u n****s no where near us......Remember that."
In a follow-up tweet, Akademiks stated:
"and yes.. enjoy all the other noise and bs.. Drake new music otw. and its fye.... trust."
These statements came after DJ Akademiks previously claimed that Drake's stimulus package no longer exists, prompting fans to react to the possibility of new music from Drizzy. Taking to X, one fan indirectly took a dig at Drizzy's record label's logo OVO stating:
"The owl is cooked…"
Several other fans flocked to social media and shared their opinions on Akademiks' tweet.
"He’s had new music out for the passed few weeks now no care bro" a fan tweeted.
"ak's really compromised" another fan tweeted.
"Do you ever rest? The D Riding is insane it’s over he lost let it go and move on" an X user stated.
Some fans commented on how DJ Akademiks has made similar claims about Drake's collaborations with Camila Cabello and Sexy Redd.
"Heard this before....the Sexy Redd/Cabello/Delilah drops," one fan commented.
"You said that about carti 2024 new music ? How can we ever trust you again Ak ?" another X user tweeted.
"Drake does not understand the value of scarcity. His career is on the verge of destruction and he is going to put the final nail in the coffin himself by releasing too soon. Go away for a while, let people miss you, and come back with a great album next year," one person tweeted.
Drake's Family Matters featured a voice note from DJ Akademiks' stream
DJ Akademiks' review of Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us music video has garnered mixed opinions from fans, given that he commented on Drake losing his charm and his music not doing well at the moment. Additionally, Akademiks mentioned that Drake's feature on Camila Cabello's latest album, C, XOXO, didn't perform as well as his other collaborations.
This instance was a rare case of Akademiks being neutral instead of siding with Drake. The podcaster has defended Drizzy's actions and promoted his songs. In May 2024, DJ Akademiks made an appearance on Andrew Schulz's Flagrant with Akaash Singh podcast, where he talked about getting a 30-minute warning from Drake before the release of Family Matters.
In the podcast, Akademiks shared that he told his driver that they might have to drive the wrong way or run tolls, and he reached home with ten minutes to spare before the song dropped. However, DJ Akademiks claimed that he didn't listen to the song before going live, wanting his reactions to be genuine.
Drake featured a voice clip of Akademiks at the end of the song, and the podcaster recalled how everyone spammed him in the chat, stating his voice note from a stream was at the end of the track.
DJ Akademiks' statement about Drake releasing new music has garnered a lot of traction. While Drizzy's fans are excited, some believe Akademiks is hyping the rapper's new music to cover for what he said while reviewing Kendrick's Not Like Us music video.
