The Voidz and Julian Casablancas shared exciting news for fans on Thursday, July 4, as they announced the Like All Before You album. The much-awaited third studio album will be released on all platforms this September.
The band celebrated the big news by dropping a short 71-second synth track, Overture, on their YouTube page. The instrumental track introduces fans to the upcoming project and offers a glimpse of what to expect. Overture is also the soundtrack for the album's official trailer, which the band released on the same day.
The album's trailer has an old-school aesthetic and starts with 80s-themed, kaleidoscopic, and looping animations. The Voidz lead singer, Julian Casablancas, voices the monologue playing in the background of the animated video and says:
“The suffocating endless talk of oppressive men, with their like-minded, indifferent killers in the shadows, making a sham of storied values, ruling and deceiving the unlucky into their miseries since the dawn of society.”
The monologue continues:
“Soon we’ll be crusted and dusted like all before us. But now is the window. One has but to reach out beyond the crooked facade for knowledge. And it is all there, beyond the initial wall of lies they’ve built around us.”
All we know so far about the Like All Before You album by The Voidz
The Like All Before You album will be the first one by The Voidz to be released in the last six years. The band's last full-length project, Virtue, was released on March 30, 2018.
While the group did not release an album for several years, they did treat fans to non-album singles between 2019 and 2024. The tracks include - The Eternal Tao, Did My Best, Alien Crime Lord, TET 2.0, Prophecy of the Dragon, Flexorcist, and All the Same.
With their music often highlighting politics, anarchy, and the overlooked sides of society, fans can expect the new album to be based on similar themes. The new project is also likely to have the fresh, and experimental tones, which the band has maintained in their music over the years.
The Like All Before You album will feature Julian Casablancas on the lead vocals, bassist Jake Bercovici, and drummer Alex Carapetis. The band's guitarists Amir Yaghmai and Beardo have also worked on the album along with keyboardist Jeff Kite.
The Voidz is yet to reveal a full list of collaborators and featured artists for the upcoming album.
The album's tracklist seems to have been leaked through listings on shopping websites like Amazon and BestBuy. While the Amazon listing does not have a price tag, the Vinyl CDs for the album are listed on BestBuy for over $32.99.
As per the listings, Like All Before You will be a 10-track project with three previously released tracks - Prophecy of the Dragon, Flexorcist, and All the Same.
