After having fans wait over two years for the trilogy's final chapter, The Weeknd, recently hinted that "the end is near." The Starboy singer shared the ominous message on his Instagram stories this Sunday seemingly suggesting that fans may get a release date for the upcoming album soon.

The 'untitled' album is part of the second trilogy series of the Toronto-born singer's career. It is preceded by After Hours and Dawn FM released in 2020 and 2022, respectively. The Weeknd last teased the upcoming album on January 8 this year, as he made an Instagram post with pictures from the two albums and a question mark.

While the singer didn't say much except '3' on the post back then, fans didn't shy away from sharing their views about the 'yet-to-be-released' album. One of the fans even guessed that he may appear as a baby on the next album's cover. Surprisingly, the singer's next post on February 8 was that of him as a baby. Ever since then, the singer has kept his lips sealed about the project and left fans wondering when the album might come out.

In his recent Instagram story, posted on May 24, the singer reshared a tweet that seemingly talked about his Save Your Tears performance. He captioned the reposted story with a mysterious "end is near" line.

With fans waiting eagerly for any further information on the album, the sudden tease by the singer has them anticipating a big reveal soon.

Timeline of The Weeknd's trilogies and everything we know so far about the upcoming album

The chart-surpassing project, House of Balloons, was the debut album for Abel Tesfaye, a.k.a. The Weeknd. The 2011 album was part of the first trilogy of his career and included the follow-up projects - Thursday and Echoes Of Silence.

Following upon the success of the first trilogy the Canadian singer began to work on the second trilogy nine years later with the release of After Hours. Unlike the albums of the first trilogy that came out in the same year (2011), the albums from the second trilogy have been released at regular intervals of two years each.

As of the writing, the singer has not disclosed which other artists might be appearing on the 'untitled' album. However, Metro Boomin has confirmed his appearance in the album. It is not known whether Metro will be appearing for a single track or more.

The Weeknd has previously worked with major names such as Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, Daft Punk, Ariana Grande, and Kendrick Lamar. His last album, Dawn FM, featured Lil Wayne, The Creator, and Tyler. The second trilogy's final installment may be inspired by multiple stages of life, birth, death, and more.

The upcoming album of the second trilogy would be the last project to be released under his stage name - 'The Weeknd.' The singer had confirmed the same while talking to W Magazine last year. At that time, he shared that while he would continue making music, he might choose to go by the name ABEL or Abel Tesfaye.

Speaking to W Magazine back then Abel Tesfaye commented:

“The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

Whether the ominous message hints at the probable release date of the untitled album or the near-end of The Weeknd alias, fans are eagerly waiting to hear from the Blinding Lights singer.
