On July 30, 2024, American rapper Megan Thee Stallion performed at Presidential election nominee Kamala Harris' Atlanta campaign rally at the Georgia State Convocation Center. The rapper performed her song Savage in front of a crowd of approximately 10,000 people and received backlash for performing a song with vulgar lyrics and twerking during her set.
In addition to internet users, prominent personalities like Lil Pump criticized Megan's performance on social media platforms. Responding to the critics, Megan Thee Stallion mentioned in her performance at Lollapalooza on August 2, 2024:
“They was fake mad that I was popping it for Kamala and I don't think they heard what she said."
The rapper continued her statement with the audience giving her a loud cheer and stated that Kamala Harris said she wants a ceasefire, she supports women's rights, and that she is tired of the soaring gas prices.
Quoting Kamala Harris, Megan said, "I'm for people," and urged her audience to support the Democratic presidential nominee by saying, "Hotties for Harris."
"If you want to keep loving your bodies, you know who to vote for"— Megan Thee Stallion publicly extended her support to Kamala Harris
Megan Thee Stallion's performance at Kamala Harris' rally in Atlanta featured the rapper in a Democrat blue suit and tie along with a huge sign reading "Hotties for Harris." Before starting her performance, the rapper shouted, "We're about to make history," and her set comprised songs like Savage, Girls In The Hood, and Mamushi.
Before performing her song Body at the rally, Megan gave a message to the crowd by mentioning:
“I know my ladies in the crowd love their body. And if you want to keep loving your body, you know who to vote for.”
Megan Thee Stallion's statement was a nod to her common ideology with Kamala Harris supporting women's right to abortion. Harris supports the legislation that would protect women's right to abortion, as mentioned in Roe v. Wade, which was overturned by Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization in 2022. Additionally, Kamala Harris became the first president or vice president to officially visit an abortion clinic in March 2024.
As for Megan Thee Stallion, the rapper has been an active advocate for women's abortion rights and tweeted after Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022.
"The court has failed us all — but we won’t back down. I’m going to keep fighting because everyone deserves access to the care they need," she said.
Additionally, Megan also expressed her thoughts on the judgment being overturned at her concert in Glastonbury on June 26, 2022. She said that her home state, Texas, was embarrassing her at the time. She also encouraged the audience to chant "My body, my motherf*****g choice" with her at the concert.
Apart from performing at Kamala Harris' rally, Megan Thee Stallion also made a TikTok with the 2024 presidential elect nominee. In the video, the rapper called herself a "hot girl coach" and asked Kamala Harris what was her message to the American people. Harris smiled toward the camera, saying, "We are not going back."
Megan is one of the many celebrities supporting Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential elections. Other celebrities who have extended support for Harris include John Legend, Cardi B, and Ariana Grande.
