Australian rapper and songwriter Iggy Azalea recently claimed she hasn’t heard from her former partner and baby’s father, Playboi Carti, in a long time. She was speaking with streamer Amouranth on a collaborative Twitch livestream.
A fan left a comment during the stream that read, “Tell Playboi Carti to drop.” Reading it out aloud, Iggy Azalea responded:
“I don’t speak to him, my love. We haven’t heard from that man in over six months. We don’t know where he is. I have no idea, have no association. You have to tell somebody that speaks to him, wherever he is. We don’t know or care.”
In the wake of this, netizens are having diverse reactions. For instance, Instagram user @claymayy commented on The Shade Room’s post sharing the video.
Many people joined the conversation and continued to call out Playboi for seemingly being a "deadbeat father."
“Mysterious to your own fam is crazy,” a person wrote.
“Carti chose playing the ps5 w uzi in Philly over the birth of his son...” one person wrote.
“Carti’s music is f**king washed and he’s a deadbeat father. This n***a is such a loser,” wrote another.
Others continued to weigh in.
“Playboi Carti should realize that it gets to a point the mysterious gimmick starts looking corny asf,” a netizen wrote.
“He ghosted his kid & his favs expect more??” another netizen asked.
“He acting mysterious to his own family as well, Carti is insane,” a user wrote.
“He never beating the deadbeat allegations, I fear,” wrote another.
Playboi Carti hasn’t commented on Iggy Azalea’s accusation yet, nor has he responded to fan criticisms.
Iggy Azalea has previously made similar claims about Playboi Carti
Iggy Azalea, 34, began dating Playboi Carti, 29, in late 2018. The following year, in December, they reportedly parted ways. In June 2020, The End of An Era rapper gave birth to Onyx. Later that year, in October, she revealed on social media that she was raising the kid alone and was no longer in a relationship with Playboi Carti.
In December 2020, Iggy Azalea took to X and accused Playboi Carti of infidelity and missing their son’s birth in a series of now-removed tweets. She also claimed that Playboi Carti refused to sign Onyx’s birth certificate and didn’t spend Christmas with the baby.
“Too bad you got an album out but can’t even come to Christmas with your own son. Imagine not flying out your family on Christmas but you have the girl you cheated on [me] my entire pregnancy at your album party and magically me and my son can’t come for Christmas anymore? TRASH,” she shared.
At the time, she claimed she hid her pregnancy to help Playboi Carti’s career. Iggy also took to Instagram Live and shared:
“While I was pregnant, this man didn’t even come to see his son be born. He went to Philly to play the PlayStation with Lil Uzi…he felt that was more important than seeing his son be born–and I had a scheduled c-section by the way.”
Subsequently, in 2023, when Playboi released his documentary, Dear O, which contained footage with Onyx, Iggy Azalea took to X and called him out for pretending to be a present father.
"It's cool how you can fit damn near every visit into just one video. Talented!" she wrote back then.
In July 2024, Iggy Azalea appeared on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast, Dinner’s On Me, where she doubled down on her claim of being a single parent. She said she had been raising her and Playboi Carti’s 4-year-old son, Onyx, alone.
"I am very much a single mother. I am very much the only parent. No disrespect, but I am not co-parenting, really. That's just the reality of it. It's 24/7," she mentioned at the time.
Playboi Carti never responded to the allegations. However, in a 2022 interview with XXL Magazine, the ASAP Mob member shared that Iggy was a “great mom” whom he loved “to death.”
His upcoming and third studio album, I Am Music, is scheduled for a February 2025 release. Five songs were pre-released while he was headlining the Rolling Loud Music Festival on December 15, 2024, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
