Rumors of the rock band My Chemical Romance's Facebook account being hacked spread like fire over the weekend. It started when the band changed its Facebook profile picture on July 25, 2024.

Setting the record straight for their fanbase, the band took to Instagram on July 28 to inform their fans of their account being compromised and stated:

"Our Facebook got hacked, so don't believe everything you read!"

The change in the band's Facebook profile picture was followed by multiple posts like updates on singer Keith Urban's health, and news of Stephen Colbert being outshined by Greg Gutfield.

Fans were quick to address the bizarre posts published on My Chemical Romance's account, given the band uses its social media only for important announcements.

My Chemical Romance's hacked Facebook account shared posts about Keith Urban and Trump's assassination attempt

On July 25, 2024, My Chemical Romance's Facebook account changed its profile picture to a new logo featuring an M on the left side and the letters C and R stacked on top of one another on the right. Fans of the rock band were initially excited after looking at this update as they assumed that the band might announce a new album.

However, the hacked account then uploaded a series of absurd posts over the weekend. The posts were later deleted. As per details of the posts mentioned by Loudwire, one of the hacked Facebook posts featured three pictures of country music fame, Keith Urban. The caption read:

"FANS RALLY AROUND KEITH URBAN AFTER HE ASKS THEM TO PRAY FOR HIM. SEE IN THE COMMENTS."

The comment section of the post consisted of a link that directed the users to a Dogmusic Group news article, which mentioned Keith Urban's marriage to Nicole Kidman. My Chemical Romance's hacked Facebook account also published a post grieving the loss of former fire chief, Corey Comperator, who lost his life at the rally wherein the assassination attempt on Donald Trump took place.

Another post featured a comparison between The Late Night Show's host Stephen Colbert and US TV show host Greg Gutfield, stating that the former outshined the latter.

Looking at these posts, fans thought that the band was publishing cryptic posts to either hint at a reunion or release a new album, given most bands follow a pattern of becoming active on social media while announcing a new project.

In a similar instance in October 2023, an associate of the rock band, bigwormser, uploaded a picture of a guitar alongside a framed art piece of the band's track I'm Not Okay (I Promise) and a note that read, "5OON." This post led to a fan speculation about the band's reunion.

However, one of the fan accounts (MCR) on X posted a chat with the band's associate, clarifying that the post was a ruse and that it was meant to troll fans of the rock band.

My Chemical Romance announced their split in 2013 and shared cryptic social media posts in 2016. In 2019, the band's frontman, Gerard Way, announced the rock band's reunion show in Los Angeles. They last performed for a live audience in 2023 in a series of concerts across the UK, North America, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Europe.
