On December 20, 2024, SZA took to Instagram to announce a delay in the release of her album Lana: SOS Deluxe. Originally scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, the singer revealed a one-day delay, stating:

Despite the brief delay, the Snooze singer dropped one of the tracks, Drive, with its video starring actor Ben Stiller. Additionally, she shared a cover for the deluxe album on December 19, 2024, in which she appears to look like a bug.

SZA revealed the title of her album, Lana: SOS, Deluxe during a concert at New York's Brooklyn Navy Yard in September 2023. The Good Days singer described the deluxe album as "like a whole 'nother album," noting that it consists of seven to ten songs and announcing its release in the fall.
Lana: SOS Deluxe is an extension of SZA's 2022 album SOS, which produced five Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits like Kill Bill. Additionally, the album spent ten non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
In an interview with Vogue dated November 14, 2024, the Love Galore singer shared that recording music for the deluxe album has been like a shift. The Broken Clocks singer said:
