A new docuseries based on Chris Brown’s history of abuse, assault, and domestic violence is up for release later this month on October 27. Titled Chris Brown: A History of Violence, it is an initiative of Investigation Discovery’s ongoing “No Excuse for Abuse” campaign.
The network dropped its 1 minute and 38-second-long trailer on September 30, which revealed that a new accuser, whose identity remains undisclosed, is all set to come forward with fresh accusations against the singer.
“I have not spoken about this matter publicly, but that’s the only way he can be stopped,” the male accuser can be heard saying in the trailer.
Chris Brown has previously been accused of physically assaulting his former girlfriend and singer Rihanna, as well as other women, which will also be at the crux of the new ID docuseries. In the wake of the announcement and the trailer release, netizens are having diverse reactions.
For instance, Instagram user @d_powers1 took to the comment section of The Neighborhood Talk’s post on the same and wrote:
For those unaware, Dan Schneider is the TV producer and screenwriter who created many kids’ shows on the Nickelodeon network between 1994 and 2019. He has been accused of s*xual misconduct over the years, most recently in the ID docuseries Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, which was released earlier this year.
Several other social media users joined the conversation on X and shared their reactions about the upcoming docuseries on Chris Brown.
“They should also delve into how these abusive men continue to be celebrated in the ‘Hollywood culture’ and maintain a fan base regardless of them being sh**ty!” a person wrote.
“That's a significant move. a documentary on Chris Brown's history of domestic violence could shed light on important issues, especially with a new accuser coming forward,” one person wrote.
Meanwhile, some called out the singer for his past behavior and called the docuseries long overdue.
“YESSSSSS! I’VE BEEN PRAYING ON HIS DOWNFALL!!!!” a netizen wrote.
“WE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE,” wrote another.
“We won, omg let’s expose him even more,” a user wrote.
Others defended Chris Brown, saying he paid all his dues for something he had done years back.
“Leave Brown alone... the Rihanna case tarnished his reputation for years,” an individual wrote.
“Interesting how they announce this the same day Chris announces his two shows in Brazil & in South Africa… The pattern been there & we not falling for it,” wrote another.
"Not even a lil documentary will make us stop listening to Chris Brown," a fan wrote.
So far, Brown hasn’t addressed the matter.
Exploring, in brief, the trailer of the Chris Brown docuseries
Apart from an anonymous new accuser coming forward, the ID docuseries about Chris Brown’s history of abuse and violence also has clips of his old interviews as well as of outrages by his critics and fans over the years.
“Chris Brown’s an amazing and talented musician, but let’s call a thing a thing. He’s an abuser of women. Consistently, unapologetically,” a woman was heard saying in the trailer.
A summary of Chris Brown: A History of Violence was also included on YouTube under the trailer description. According to it, the docuseries would explore the singer's “past all the way back to his troubled childhood,” as well as “the lasting impact of the cycle of abuse.”
“The documentary provides thoughtful reflections into each survivor’s experience and the psychological destruction in the aftermath of their abuse,” the description reads.
The Ample Entertainment production will ask questions such as “How does a man with such a violent public record maintain his superstar status?” and offer “expert and cultural commentary.”
Notably, in February 2009, Brown and his then-girlfriend Rihanna got engaged in a heated verbal exchange that eventually turned violent, with him causing “severe facial injuries that required hospitalization.”
Later, he pleaded guilty to a felony assault and accepted a plea deal that needed him to undergo five years of probation, six months of community service, and one year of domestic violence counseling.
Years following that, Brown has continued to face other legal troubles, including allegations of physical and s*xual assaults, lawsuits, interpersonal violence, off-stage aggression, and more.
As per reports, Investigation Discovery is all set to make a brand-new docuseries on disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently in federal custody. He is facing multiple felony charges of racketeering conspiracy, s*x trafficking with force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
