American singer and actor Tyrese Gibson took to Instagram Live on August 29, 2024, with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, wherein he spoke about Joe Biden passing the Anti-Asian Hate Crime Bill. Gibson claimed that the Biden administration passed the bill to protect the Asian community while they left the Brown and Black communities behind.

After Tyrese criticized the Asian Hate Crime Bill, American journalist Roland Martin posted a video on Instagram on September 1, 2024, calling the singer out and claiming that he was 100 percent wrong. In the video, Roland Martin mentioned that the bill pertained to attacks on Asian Americans but wasn't limited to one community.

Moreover, Roland addressed Gibson and said:

“Tyrese, you do not know what you’re talking about. That video where you’re talking about an anti-Asian crime bill, that is a lie. Please learn to fact-check before you start talking.”

In May 2021, Joe Biden signed legislation that addressed the hate crimes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the elevated violence against Asian Americans. The Asian Hate Crime Bill offers a hotline for local prosecutors looking for guidance in cases of hate crimes as well as training for law enforcement. Additionally, Biden also tweeted:

"Hate has no place in America – and I look forward to making that clear this afternoon by signing the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act into law."

"You’re saying that Black and Brown people will continue to be disposable": Tyrese Gibson comments on Kamala Harris and Joe Biden

In his Instagram Live with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Tyrese Gibson mentioned that Kamala Harris and President Biden signed the Asian Hate Crime Bill that makes it illegal for anyone to do anything malicious against anyone in the Asian community purposely.

The singer also claimed that there was a spike in criminal behavior and crimes around COVID, allegedly motivated by Donald Trump, as a result of which people started mistreating Asians by killing, stabbing, hurting, and beating them.

Explaining his perspective on how the Asian Hate Crime Bill came into existence, Gibson claimed that Biden got into the White House, skipping over every "Black and Brown Mexican and Latino that has been getting killed like flies."

Moreover, Tyrese said that Biden signed the bill and brought it into effect to protect the Asian community at all costs, after which he proceeded to ask where was the same law to be signed and brought into effect when it came to the Black and Brown communities.

"Because what you’re doing is — President Biden and Kamala Harris — what you’re doing is, you’re saying that Black and Brown people will continue to be disposable. That sh*t doesn’t make sense.”

On the contrary, in a tweet dated July 26, 2024, Gibson re-tweeted Barack Obama's post endorsing Kamala Harris and captioned the tweet, "Lets gooooo!!!!!!!" showcasing support for Harris in the 2024 Presidential elections.

In other news, Tyrese Gibson's ex-wife, Norma Mitchell, filed a lawsuit against Gibson in Los Angeles County Superior Court on May 7, 2024.

According to the record of the complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Norma's lawsuit claims that the singer defamed her and also disclosed private information about her and their daughter Shyla on a public platform like Instagram, referring to a series of posts by Gibson from April 30 to May 7, 2024.
