Post Malone's music career spans the genres of pop, hip-hop, R&B, and trap. The New York-born singer has also spent his share of time playing for metal bands in the early days of his career.
Malone was a passionate musician even in his high school days and played as a guitarist in his first band called Ashley's Arrival. A clip of the metalcore band's performance surfaced in 2010. The clip featured Malone shredding the guitar as the band covered Asking Alexandria’s The Final Episode (Let’s Change Channel).
In the same year, the young Post Malone auditioned as a guitarist for the American metalcore band Crown The Empire. The young star, however, couldn't make it through the 2010 auditions after the strings of his guitar broke mid-auditions.
Not much is known about Malone's music career post the auditions. The singer, however, released a parody synth-pop ballad at 17. Released under the Leon DeChino alias, the ballad Why Don't You Love Me was created for the singer's school project.
Post Malone's transition from metalcore to pop and hip-hop-inspired music
Post Malone officially bounced off from the 2010 rejection, as he created his first music group called 'BLCKVRD' in his 20s. Co-created with his longtime friend, Jason Probst, the group acted as the catalyst for the singer's transition from metalcore to hip-hop-inspired music.
As the singer continued creating music with the group, he developed connections with the record producers Sauce Lord Rich and Rex Kudo. The LA-based producer, Rex Kudo, later produced Malone's debut single White Iverson.
The 2015 single kickstarted Post Malone's career in the hip-hop music industry, as he continued to amass fame with his 2016 debut album, Stoney. The singer went on a hit streak with the albums - Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018), Hollywood's Bleeding (2019), Twelve Carat Toothache (2022), and Austin (2023).
Malone's fans can get ready for the release of his new album called F-1 Trillion. Marking another significant chapter in the singer's career. It will be his first project to be based around country music.
While his music continues to span through many genres, Post Malone prefers not to categorize it and spoke to GQ about the same in January 2018.
“It should just be music, you know? Because I’ve met so many people that’ll say, ‘I listen to everything except for this, or this,’ you know? And I think that’s stupid. If you like it, you should listen to it.”
Malone will release F-1 Trillion next month, on August 16.The lead single, I Had Some Help, released this summer, on May 10. It was followed by the second single, Pour Me a Drink, which was released on June 21. The album will feature guest appearances from country music singers Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, and Blake Shelton.
As of this writing, Post Malone is not linked with any metalcore projects. The singer's most recent performance in the metal and rock genre was in 2018. Malone shredded the guitar for a performance along with the rock band Aerosmith at the MTV Video Music Awards.
