Beyoncé first started using the moniker Sasha Fierce in 2008 when she released her 2008 double album titled I Am...Sasha Fierce. The album is the concoction of two very different personalities of Queen Bey and highlights the differences between her private persona and her personality on stage, during the beginning of her career.
According to Queen Bey, Sasha Fierce represented a more outspoken and extravagant side of her character that would dominate whenever the singer would start performing on stage. However, that personna was very different from her timid and reserved private self, when she would be away from the glitz and glamor of stardom.
In a 2008 statement during the release of her double album, I Am...Sasha Fierce, Beyoncé explained Sasha's personality quite comprehensively. She highlighted that the alter-ego was meant to protect her candid personality from the boisterous extravagance of her stardom. She said,
"Sasha Fierce is the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken side and more glamorous side that comes out when I'm working and when I'm on the stage."
She further added,
"I have someone else that takes over when it's time for me to work and when I'm onstage, this alter ego that I've created kind of protects me and who I really am."
In fact, I Am...Sasha Fierce reproduces the two sides of her personality perfectly. The first part of the double album, I Am, features introspective pop tracks written by Amanda Ghost, whereas Sasha Fierce has fast-paced songs that are suited for the dance floor and have been composed by Jim Jonsin and Bangladesh.
Does Beyoncé still take the help of Sasha Fierce?
In a 2010 interview with Allure Magazine, Queen Bey confirmed that she doesn't bifurcate her personality between Sasha Fierce and Beyoncé anymore. The singer revealed that she had matured enough to be able to merge her onstage and off-stage personalities. Queen Bey declared that she had killed off Sasha Fierce as she no longer needed her help. She said,
"I don't need Sasha Fierce anymore, because I've grown and now I'm able to merge the two."
The bifurcation was deemed necessary only till the time Queen Bey was not quite able to strike a balance between her personal and public selves and merge her two personas.
