Fyre Fest festival's founder, Billy McFarland, recently confirmed the return of the controversial event in April 2025 on a privately owned island near Mexico in the Caribbean. In an interview with NBC News, McFarland confirmed that he's set to revamp the festival that was canceled in 2017.

"It [Fyre Festival 2] is happening April 25, 2025, so we’re seven and a half months away. We have a private island off the coast of Mexico in the Caribbean, and we have an incredible production company who’s handling everything from soup to nuts," he said.

The original Fyre Festival was set to be held over two weekends in 2017 on a private Bahama beach. However, it was revealed to be associated with multiple fraudulent activities, and guests found inadequate preparations upon arrival. There was a lack of basic necessities, including food and water, at the festival.

Following the debacle, Billy McFarland was found guilty of multiple fraudulent charges and sentenced to six years in prison. He was released from prison in 2022 after serving for four years. As per Celebrity Net Worth, Billy McFarland has a net worth of $-26 million, indicating he is in debt.

The founder also revealed that he wants to invite around 3000 people for Fyre Festival 2, a three-day event. Per McFarland, the ticket price range will be between $1,400 and $1.1 million.

Why does Billy McFarland have a negative net worth?

As per Celebrity Net Worth, Fyre Festival's former CEO Billy McFarland has a current net worth of $-26 million. The negative net worth indicates McFarland is still in debt after his 2017 Fyre Festival was canceled due to fraudulent activities.

The festival was marketed as a luxury music event designed to promote new musical talent on behalf of their parent company, Fyre Media. As per CNW, Billy McFarland sent letters to potential investors ahead of the festival in 2017, claiming he already had a business worth $90 million.

He also reportedly lied about landing multiple sponsorships and deals, all of which were discovered to be fraudulent. CNW reported that authorities later discovered Fyre Media had only generated around $57,000. McFarland had also claimed that high-profile celebrities like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner would perform at the event.

However, when ticket holders attended the festival, none of their promised facilities were available. Guests reportedly did not find food and water and had to live in tents instead of the luxury villas they were promised. There were also multiple problems related to security, medical facilities, and residence.

After the Fyre Festival was exposed, McFarland and his partner, Ja Rule, were reportedly sued for $100 million. In March 2018, McFarland was found guilty of two accounts of fraud. He admitted to borrowing $26 million for funding. After he agreed to reimburse the amount, he was charged with six years of prison, as per Celebrity Net Worth.

Billy McFarland is supposedly yet to clear all his debts as of writing and owes people money, as indicated by his reported net worth. The former CEO was released early from prison in 2022 after serving four years.

Billy McFarland reveals plans to host Fyre Festival 2 in April 2025

Despite his negative net worth and controversial history, Billy McFarland has confirmed his plans to host Fyre Festival 2 in April 2025 in his interview with NBC News.

McFarland claims he has hired a professional festival production company to "handle the stages and the bathrooms and all the stuff that I clearly don’t know how to do." However, he did not reveal the name of the island for Fyre Festival 2 and added that guests have not yet been booked to perform at the festival.

Speaking about his failed attempt to host Fyre Festival in 2017, Billy McFarland said:

“I was totally guilty. I committed a crime. Obviously went to prison, and I deserved that prison sentence. But it wasn’t until the day after the festival was canceled and I had one of my early investors call me and basically say, ‘We need to do this, this and this, or else you’re going to be in the front page of The Wall Street Journal in handcuffs.'"

In August 2023, the first 100 tickets for Fyre Festival 2, priced at $499 a ticket, were sold out within a day. The website did not include any details about the event's date, time, or venue at that point. Addressing the massive demand, Billy McFarland said:

“I think there’s a large number of people who want to go to Fyre II because they’re unsure of the outcome, and they would like to have a front-row seat no matter what happens. Thankfully, we have good partners who will make sure they’re safe and obviously make sure things work out.”

McFarland assured in his interview that the hotel has actual villas and resorts this time and that the food will be expensive.
