A diamond-crusted Barbie doll with an $80k price tag was what Beyonce’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy got for her first birthday. It was custom-made by Tiffany & Co., with 160 diamonds studded onto white gold, and was reportedly a one-of-a-kind piece.
Although a photo of the doll was never made publicly available, many tabloids posted that it might have been the most expensive Barbie ever made. The billionaire couple didn't end at just this and ensured that Blue Ivy's first birthday was made as memorable as possible.
According to an article by Hello!, published in July 2023, Blue Ivy Carter reportedly got a birthday cake worth approximately $2000, and an additional $80,000 was spent on buying white and pink roses for her lavish birthday party decorations. Finally, Beyonce also spent $25,000 (approximately) to buy other clothes, toys, and gifts for Blue Ivy's friends.
However, the most expensive gift that Blue Ivy got was perhaps a golden rocking horse designed by famous Japanese jeweler Ginza Tanaka, which was worth $600,000.
Blue Ivy isn't the only child of the billionaire couple. They had twins Rumi and Sir in 2017, but their first birthday celebration wasn't as extravagant an affair. Instead, the Grammy-winning couple celebrated their birthday by having a private family party in Europe.
In an article published by People in June 2018, it was reported that the family had organized a small celebration. It also revealed that Tina Knowles traveled to Europe to take part in the day's celebrations with the twins and her daughter.
Blue Ivy first came to the limelight when Queen Bey declared her pregnancy during her 2011 performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Five months later, she was born, and as reported by Hello!, this billionaire couple hired a whole floor during her birth from New York's Lenox Hill Hospital.
Beyonce's eldest daughter won a Grammy at just 9 years old
At the 2021 Grammys, Blue Ivy won the historic honor when she was just nine years old. She was one of the co-writers of Beyonce’s 2019 chart-buster Brown Skin Girl, which won the Best Music Award at the Grammys.
Written jointly by Queen Bey, Blue Ivy, WizKid, and Saint JHN, the song was from the album The Lion King: The Gift, and was a massive chart-buster when it was released.
Brown Skin Girl was one of the biggest songs of the year post-release, peaking at number 27 on the United States Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and at number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also listed number 1 on the Rolling Stones Top 100 list.
The song is a celebration of the culture of women of color, and the music video stars Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, Adut Akech, Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, and Beyonce's children, Blue Ivy, Rumi, and others. In just over three years, the music video has earned over sixty-seven million views on YouTube, as of this writing.
Beyonce also talked about the impact of her song in an interview with Good Morning America in 2020.
“It was so important to me in 'Brown Skin Girl' that we represented all different shades of brown, and I wanted every character to be shot in a regal light," commented Beyonce.
She concluded her opinion by calling everyone to join the celebrations and make themselves and others aware of the rich cultural heritage of people of color.
