Members of the Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C. recently made their feelings known about the reunion of Oasis. During an interview with Studio Brussel published on Thursday, September 5, band member Carlos O’Connell noted that he couldn't honestly "give a s*it" about the Oasis reunion. O'Connell's fellow bandmate Conor Deegan III supported the former's sentiments and added:
"I feel like we get caught in the last era — like the ’10s — and into such a nostalgic thing that we’re forgetting to make new things."
Deegan even called the whole internet hype surrounding the Oasis reunion, "really annoying". Oasis' Liam Gallagher caught wind of the comments and took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Thursday, September 12 only to proclaim:
"F**k them little spunkbubbles I’ve seen better dressed ROADIES."
Liam Gallagher lashed out at Fontaines D.C.
During an interview with Studio Brussel last week, Fontaines D.C. members Carlos O’Connell and Conor Deegan III expressed their dislike for the upcoming Oasis reunion. When asked how excited they were for the event, Carlos the band's guitarist responded:
"I couldn’t really give a s**t, to be honest."
The interviewer burst into laughter and noted that this was not a reaction she was expecting. Bassist Conor Deegan III further reiterated Carlos' sentiments by conceding that he was honestly "not excited about it" either. As mentioned earlier, the musician thought that people get so lost in nostalgia for the past that they forget to make new things.
The band had only recently put out their fourth studio album Romance on August 23 of this year. The album was met with a largely positive reception. Deegan further explained to the interviewer how Oasis' reunion stood against what they were trying to do with their new record. He said:
"I've felt like, what we wanted to do with this record anyway, where we wanted to make our minds look into the future and making new things. So for Oasis to reform at this moment, for us, is really annoying,"
Liam Gallagher, not a stranger to confrontations and the occasional X (Twitter) spat, was quick to clap back at Fontaines D.C. On September 12, NME published an article on Liam Gallagher reportedly seeking established acts to support Oasis on their tour and posted the link to the report on X.
One fan responded to NME and asked whether Fontaines D.C. was in consideration for the gig. However, as mentioned above Liam Gallagher himself personally responded to the fan by cussing out the band and their dressing sense while calling them "spunkbubbles".
When one fan who went by "Lily" on the platform told Gallagher that they thought the band was great, the musician replied:
"They look like a s**t EMF."
EMF (Epsom Mad Funkers) is an English alternative rock band formed in 1989, which rose to prominence in the early 90's. When another user asked Liam if Fontaines D.C. was not supporting Oasis on tour, as suggested by a few rumors, Gallagher once again simply responded with a direct shot, "Ate they f**k".
On September 12, NME released an Instagram post about why the aforementioned Fontaines D.C. members did not care about Oasis. In the comments section of the Instagram post, the band's frontman Grian Chatten clarified that this was not his personal opinion. He wrote:
"I love Oasis. This is not my opinion,"
Oasis is all set for an unlikely surprise reunion after a 15-year hiatus. The Oasis Live '25 Tour announced on August 27 of this year will see the Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel, perform in a plethora of venues across the UK and Ireland. The tour will kickstart with a performance in Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 4, 2025, and come to a close with a September 28 performance at the Wembley Stadium.
