In 2022, Chris appeared to have sent wishes to Rihanna after her first delivery. Chris wrote "Congratulations" and added a pregnant woman emoji on his Instagram story. Chris and Rihanna's relationship ended after an alleged physical assault incident.

Rihanna has previously talked about the emotional challenges in her life. In an interview for Rolling Stone in 2011, she shared her experience of domestic violence in her family that her father would often come home drunk, and he would hit her mother.

Many years after her success, RiRi started dating rapper and singer, Chris Brown in 2007. In February 2009, RiRi was physically assaulted by Chris Brown during a heated argument. In the documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome To My Life, the singer accepted hitting Rihanna. He said,

"I really hit her. With a closed fist, like I punched her and it busted her lip. And when I saw it I was in shock. Why the hell did I hit her?"

Chris Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting RiRi in June 2009. He accepted community labor, five years' probation, and domestic violence counseling.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News in 2009, RiRi broke the silence on the assault and shared that she sees herself as a "strong" woman, yet it happened to her. She added that she didn't "cause" it and said,

"This happened to me, and it can happen to anyone."

The Where Have You Been singer said that her family, friends, and faith in God supported her. In a 2020 interview in 2009, Rihanna wished well for her former partner and said,

"I want him to do well, have a great career, have a great life and grow up."

She added,

"And just take this as something that you had to go through to grow up and learn."

In 2020, RiRi told Oprah Winfrey that she and Chris Brown are working on their "friendship." She explained,

"We've built up trust again... We love each other and we probably always will. And that's not something we're ever going to change. That's not something you can shut off, if you've ever been in love"
