On January 21, 2025, rapper Christopher Maurice Brown filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros., the American entertainment studio, over the release of the Investigation Discovery docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence, which premiered in October 2024. The docuseries highlights assault allegations made against Brown by Daisia Frank.

The lawsuit alleges that the media, in this instance, prioritized financial gain over the accurate and responsible presentation of facts, thereby compromising journalistic integrity —

"To put it simply, this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth," the lawsuit read.

The lawsuit controversy stems from allegations made by Daisia Frank, also referred to as Jane Doe, who has accused Brown of physical assault in 2020. These claims, prominently featured in the aforementioned docuseries, have sparked significant public and media interest.

Daisia Chantel Frank, a professional dancer and aspiring singer, filed a lawsuit against rapper Chris Brown in January 2022. According to the lawsuit, in December 2020, Frank was invited to a yacht party in Miami owned by rap mogul Sean Diddy Combs, where she encountered Brown.

During their brief interaction, Brown allegedly offered her drinks, after which she felt disoriented, overwhelmingly tired, and nearly immobilized. Frank alleged that following this incident, Brown took her to a private area on the yacht and s*xually assaulted her.

"I know it for a fact. Instead of telling myself that it wasn’t, it was. It was rape," Frank stated.

Daisia Frank further alleged that after the assault, Brown put his number into her phone under the pretense of offering her opportunities in the music industry.

However, Chris Brown’s attorney refuted the claims, stating that Frank had a documented history of domestic violence and that her interactions with Brown were consensual, as evidenced by text messages and voice recordings.

Frank asserted that her primary motivation for filing the lawsuit was to support other women who might have experienced similar treatment from the rapper.

She emphasized this point by referencing Brown’s allegedly notorious history, including his 2009 alleged assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Chris Brown filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for the release of a documentary that allegedly accused him of s*xually assaulting women. The docuseries also included references to the cases of Daisia Frank and Barbadian singer Rihanna.

According to the lawsuit, Ample LLC and Warner Bros. were formally put on notice in October 2024 for promoting the series, which contained unlawful and defamatory details about the rapper. The lawsuit further claimed that the series was released with full knowledge that its contents were based on falsehoods —

"Since the beginning of October of 2024, Ample LLC and Warner Brothers were put on notice that they were promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment of Chris Brown. Ultimately, on October 27, 2024, they aired ‘Chris Brown: A History of Violence’ (the ‘Documentary’), knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalist principles," the lawsuit reads.

The lawsuit, which has also been shared by the rapper on his Instagram account, notes that Brown’s attorney, Levi McCathern, provided sufficient evidence to disprove the allegations, yet the series was still aired —

"This case is about protecting the truth. Despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims, the producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information," the lawsuit reads.

As of now, the docuseries has not yet issued a response to the lawsuit filed by the rapper.
