Rapper Eve recently revealed that she lost her pregnancy while shooting her eponymous sitcom in 2006. On Thursday, September 4, 2024, People magazine published an extract from the rapper's upcoming memoir, Who's That Girl? in which Eve details the time when she needed emergency surgery due to an ectopic pregnancy.

Due to the surgery, she had to pause shooting for a couple of weeks. However, the Gotta Man rapper was determined to push through for her career. Looking at photos of herself from that difficult time in her life, the Emmy Awards nominated star recalled in her memoir:
"I can see how skinny I was. Too skinny. And too much in denial. But it’s like I’ve said before, sometimes I did whatever it took to show up and get the job done... even if it was to my own detriment," she mentioned.
As per the Mayo Clinic, an ectopic pregnancy happens when the egg is fertilized and grows outside the uterus. It is also called tubal pregnancy. Such a pregnancy can't proceed normally, as the fertilized egg can't survive outside the uterus. If left untreated, it can cause life-threatening bleeding.
"I had to forgive myself and know that what had happened wasn't my fault"- Eve about her journey to motherhood
In 2006, at the time of her surgery, Eve lied and told the crew that she had appendicitis. Reflecting on her decision to lie about her health condition, she wrote:
"I don’t know why I lied to everyone on set and said that my appendix had ruptured, really. Maybe because I was lying to myself. If I faced losing my baby, then I didn’t know if two weeks would be enough emotional healing time."
The Let Me Blow Ya Mind hitmaker explained that she got "barely enough healing time" before returning on set.
Eve married English entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper in 2014. She became a stepmother to his four children from a previous marriage. The pair also share a son together, Wilde Wolf, born in 2022. She currently lives in London with her husband and five kids.
While talking to People magazine for its recent issue, the Queens actor credited her husband, Cooper for getting her through the difficult time. Calling him her "anchor," the Philadelphia-born musician explained she was "hormonal," stressed, and cried a lot, but her Cooper kept her calm.
In her memoir, Eve added that she did not grieve the loss of her baby for years, but ensured that she processed her emotions before welcoming her son, who was conceived after several rounds of IVF treatments.
"For years, I never grieved losing my first baby. I didn't know how to, but I eventually learned. I had to speak to that baby and acknowledge their existence. I had to forgive myself and know that what had happened wasn't my fault, that I deserved to be a mother, and that I was ready to bring a baby into this world down here," she wrote.
Eve added that once she gave birth to Wilde, she "fully embraced being his mother."
In May, the rapper performed at the Cross the Tracks music festival in London, where her son made a guest appearance. Talking about the day, she told the publication she was "proud" and felt like a "superhero."
Who's That Girl? will be released on September 17. It is available for preorder.
