PnB Rock's murder trial has a new update where two men, identified as Freddie Trone and Tremont Jones, were found guilty of being involved in the murder of the rapper. Rock was shot dead in September 2022 at Roscoe's House of Chicken 'N Waffles.
Both individuals were charged by a Los Angeles County jury on August 7, 2024. While charges related to murder, robbery, and a conspiracy to commit robbery were imposed on Trone, Jones was charged with two counts of robbery and a charge of conspiracy.
The latter reportedly informed Trone about PnB Rock's movements on the day of his death, and Freddie's son, Shauntel, was the one who shot at Rock. Associated Press reported that Trone's son has been charged with murder, but since he is not capable of going to a trial, he is currently in juvenile custody.
PnB Rock's mother Deannea Allen expressed her satisfaction with the verdict in a statement shared with Rolling Stone, stating that she wanted to "jump up and scream." She further stated:
"I'm so happy it was quick. We got justice for Rakim. I feel better knowing they'll be in jail for a long time."
On the other hand, Freddie's attorney, Winston McKesson, plans to file a motion for a new trial. He said in a statement to the Associated Press that the accusations against his client were made without presenting any evidence.
"There is no evidence he gave his son a gun and no evidence he told him to shoot the guy. The only evidence the jury found is that he dropped him off and picked him up."
Freddie Trone denied that he convinced his son to murder PnB Rock
Also known as Rakim Hasheem Allen, his murder trial lasted for around two weeks. Freddie Trone and Tremont Jones were convicted after a debate of four hours, and apart from firing shots at Rock, Trone's son Shauntel reportedly stole the artist's jewelry while he was eating with his daughter.
Freddie Trone refused to accept that he prompted the killing as he came to the stand. He testified that he was not present when the incident happened and did not provide a gun to anyone. However, he accepted his son was dangerous and that whatever he did was wrong.
The surveillance footage of the restaurant revealed that Trone was present in the parking lot around 30 minutes before PnB Rock was shot dead. Although Trone admitted to his presence at the place, he said he was there for work related to his beauty shop located near the restaurant.
A press release by the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office stated that Trone and Jones would be sentenced on August 27, 2024, followed by Shauntel's sentencing on January 16, 2024, at Dept. D of the Compton Courthouse.
District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement that he was happy since justice was served to PnB Rock's family. He expressed gratitude to the Community Violence Reduction Division for their "commitment to seek justice" for Rock and continued:
"Let this serve as a clear message to anyone who threatens the safety and well-being of our community: our office will relentlessly pursue charges and work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice."
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native's debut album, Catch These Vibes, came out in 2017. He released many singles, such as Selfish, Gang Up, and I Like Girls. His survivors included two daughters, Milan Allen and Xuri Li Sibounheuang.
