Alabama rapper, songwriter, and record producer Gucci Mane shared his tribute for Texas rapper Enchanting in the wake of the latter’s tragic passing on June 11, aged 26. Enchanting, whose real name was Channing Nicole Larry was signed to Gucci Mane’s New 1017 Records from 2020 to 2023.

“So sad to have to say R.I.P. to such a great young lady, a true star we gone all miss you, Chant,” Gucci wrote on Instagram, tagging the late rapper and sharing her image where she donned a pair of 1017 chains.

Enchanting’s last album with New 1017 Records was Luv Scarred/ No Luv (Deluxe) which was released in November 2022, and had many Mane collaborations, including Big Chant, Large Amounts, Issa Photoshoot, and No Love.

For those unaware, Gucci Mane’s real name is Radric Delantic Davis.

Gucci Mane originally wanted to use Guwop as his stage name

Gucci Mane was born in Bessemer, Alabama in February 1980 but was raised in Atlanta by a single mother. He moved to the Georgia capital in fourth grade and grew up alongside an older brother. Originally, he wanted to use Guwop as his stage name but later stuck to Gucci Mane, which was inspired by a nickname his grandmother gave his father.

He began his music career in 2001 by launching his debut underground album Str8 Drop Records Presents Gucci Mane La Flare. This was followed by various mixtapes, singles, and collaborations, until he unveiled his independent debut album Trap House in 2005, best known for its hit single Icy, featuring Young Jeezy.

Since then, the CEO and co-founder of 1017 Records released several other albums including Hard to Kill, Trap-A-Thorn, Back To The Trap House, The State vs Radric Davis, The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted, and El Gato: The Human Glacier, among others. His recent ventures include the 2023 album Breath of Fresh Air and the collaborative E.P. Choppers & Bricks with B.G.

Apart from 1017 Records, Mane also owns the label So Icey Entertainment, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. He was inspired to rap by the likes of Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Ice Cube, the Beastie Boys, and N.W.A. among others.

The Black Tee hitmaker has also tried acting, including in the movies Birds of a Feather (2012) and Spring Breakers (2012) starring Selena Gomez. He also owns a clothing line called Delantic (founded in 2016), and collaborated with luxury fashion brand Gucci as part of their 2020 Cruise Campaign.

Regarded as one of the pioneers of the hip-hop subgenre trap music, he released his memoir, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane in 2017, which he wrote from federal prison. It was co-written by music journalist Neil Martinez-Belkin and will reportedly be adapted into a film.

The Grammy nominee was jailed after being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2014. Davis is married to model and entrepreneur Keyshia Ka’oir whom he met on the set of his music video for the popular single 911 Emergency in 2010.

The pair’s nuptials were aired on BET as part of a ten-part The Mane Event special. The 44-year-old is a father of three children, the youngest being a daughter named Iceland Ka’oir Davis, born in 2023.
