English musician Alex Kapranos, popularly known as the frontman of Franz Ferdinand, recently took to X to call out the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) amid a motorway breakdown. On September 2, 2024, Alex tagged the RAC UK and RAC Care accounts and wrote:

"I've been waiting to be picked up from a motorway breakdown for 7 hours. Your operators don't seem to know what is going on. Or say trucks have been dispatched when they haven't. Is this normal? Is this my life now? Waiting for the truck that never comes?"

A fan replied to the singer's tweet, questioning if the RAC was a 24-hour service or not. To this, Alex responded that he had been speaking to the operators but they said that they didn't know or put the call on hold and hung up.

Furthermore, Alex Kapranos wrote another follow-up post on X after 14 hours and tagged RAC again. He stated that he could see the clubhouse answering other people's tweets and not his. The musician also mentioned that he had been waiting for a truck for "nearly 14 hours," ending the tweet by questioning RAC if it had "any clue" as to what was going on

The RAC eventually replied to Alex's tweets and apologized for the inconvenience. Later, the Franz Ferdinand frontman tweeted by referring to a representative of the UK's Automobile Association, Conor. He added:

"Thanks for the reply, Conor. A driver has arrived. 15 hours after I first broke down. Obviously I shall be cancelling my 20 year+ RAC membership as soon as I get home and giving @TheAA_UK a ring."

RAC dubs Alex Kapranos' claim of being stuck for 15 hours as "factually incorrect"

The RAC shed light on Alex Kapranos' version of events during the motorway breakdown. The clubhouse stated that the singer was not only assisted sooner but also put in a hotel. The RAC shared a statement with The National wherein the service mentioned they rescued the Franz Ferdinand frontman from the motorway within 1 hour 45 minutes.

They added that Alex's claim of being stuck on the motorway for 15 hours was "factually incorrect". The RAC stated:

“He wasn’t stuck on the motorway for 15 hours. We rescued him 1hr 45 mins after he called us and towed him to a motorway services and put him up overnight as per his policy. We sent someone to him again this morning.”

Alex Kapranos hadn't commented on RAC's claim at the time of publishing this article.

Alex Kapranos hints at making new music with Franz Ferdinand bandmates

In February 2024, Franz Ferdinand's self-titled album completed twenty years since its release in 2004. Celebrating the milestone, the band's frontman Alex Kapranos took to Instagram on February 10, 2024, to express his emotions via a long paragraph in the caption. The caption started with the following text:

"Happy birthday, FF! It seems our first LP is twenty years old today."

Alex Kapranos recalled that it was hard to believe that he and bass guitarist Bob Hardy dreamed of the band in a Glasgow restaurant which resulted in them going around the world several times and bringing joy to themselves and their fans.

Alex expressed his gratitude to Bob Hardy and the band's manager, Cerne Canning. He further wrote that Canning made a "lot of personal sacrifice" for them as he believed Franz Ferdinand comprised "true cultural worth". The band's frontman thanked Domino Recording Company, stating that he now looks forward to the next twenty years with them.

Amid the touching note of gratitude, Alex Kapranos hinted at releasing new music with his bandmates and wrote:

"As for now, I’m looking forward to finishing this new one I’ve been making with Bob, @miaouxmiaoux, @dinobardot, and @audrey_tait. I can’t wait for you all to hear it."

Additionally, in the celebratory Instagram post, Alex told his fans that it made him happy to think that some of the fans might be playing the band's self-titled album. He ended his message by stating, "Don't be afraid to dance."
