On Christmas 2023, Beyoncé Knowles' childhood home in Rosendale, Houston was engulfed in flames after a fire broke out early in the morning. At 2 am, the two-story house caught fire, and much of the house was severely damaged. However, it could've been much worse as the house had a couple and two children inside when the calamity struck. According to ABC 13, the second floor of the house was completely engulfed in flames when the firemen arrived on the spot. Flames were jutting out of the windows and they had to enter through the roof to clear evacuate the house and get a grip on the flames before the situation could get out of hand.

Although the house was damaged, the Houston Fire Department was swift to respond and controlled the flames in about 10 minutes. According to a report by local news station KTRK, Houston Fire Department Chief Justin Barnes lauded his group and reported that the fire was extinguished in no time.

“They did a great job. I’m going to say in less than 10 minutes, we had a really good grip on this fire,” commented Chief Justin Barnes.

Beyoncé's parents bought the house in 1981 for a price of $64,000 and she lived there till she was five years old. Therefore, the place is treated as a temple by devoted members of the Bey Hive and fans flock around it all day to get a glimpse of Beyoncé's childhood abode.

In an interview with The Daily Mail short after the incident, Keith Rosen talked about the cultural importance of Beyoncé's house. The man is a tour guide and has a company called Houston Historical Tours.

“People who go on these tours are Beyoncé devotees, fanatics. Going to see that home where she first lived is like going to Bethlehem — the birthplace of their leader,” commented Rosen.

He also named another Beyoncé-specific destination that is as popular as her childhood home.

“This is one of the two most popular stops on the tour, the other being the home on Parkwood, where the family lived after moving out of the Rosedale home. Almost 100 per cent of people get out for me to take their photo, to take selfies.”

Designed by architect Tadao Ando, the 'L' shaped estate was previously owned by art collector William Bell and was listed for a price of $295 million. William Bell bought the house for $14.5 million in 2003 and it has a montage of works collected by Bell over the years.

Although the massive property never went for sale publicly, it was shown to an exclusive group of candidates, and the entire transaction was handled by Kurt Rappaport and Westside Estate Agency.
