Rapper OG Maco was recently taken to the hospital after being reportedly injured from a gunshot in an alleged su*cide attempt. Also known as Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., he has one album in his credits, The God of Rage, and has released many EPs such as Public Speaking and Breathe over the years.
Details about the injury are still unclear. When authorities arrived at his house, he was unresponsive and had to undergo surgery. TMZ Hip Hop also reported that a firearm was found at the scene.
However, a report by TMZ Hip Hop stated that the cops arrived at an area in Los Angeles on December 12, 2024, after responding to a 911 call. A neighbor of Maco had also reportedly heard a gun being fired inside his residence.
On the other hand, OG Maco's manager Poppa Perc spoke to All Hip Hop, sharing that is alive and is currently at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He also mentioned that the doctors are doing their best to save Maco and he is on life support now.
Poppa also recalled the time when Maco was found inside his house, saying that he first believed that Maco was dead. He further stated:
"We were about rebrand and drop [new music] under a whole new alias. We need everyone's prayers. But don't get your hopes up. We don't have too much information. They won't even let us come to the hospital."
OG Maco has battled a skin-eating disease in the past
While OG Maco's recent hospitalization has left fans worried, the artist has been battling some other problems over the years. Back in March 2019, he shared an Instagram Story, opening up about his struggle with a skin-eating disease for around three months.
Maco added a photo of himself as he addressed the disease, saying that he was "improperly treated for a minor rash", leading to the problem. He further stated:
"This is the best it's looked. I hope it gives someone hope. I've been going through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my 'friends', without anything but my own strength and God."
OG Maco disclosed that the disease also resulted in depression, saying that he was scared that he might lose his face. He also disclosed that he was told by a friend to share what he has been going through instead of staying silent and dealing with the complications. He later shared another post on X expressing gratitude to his fans for supporting him.
Apart from this, OG Maco had an accident in 2016, which resulted in cracked vertebrae, heart palpitations, and several skull fractures, as per Revolt. His eye was also damaged in the accident and he had shared a photo of the same through an Instagram post, which has been deleted now. He wrote below the photo:
"Y'all bastards had all these jokes like I really didn't lose a eye real quick. I don't mind. Just remember I never did a thing to you? To see a world where the do-ears and dreamers are ridiculed more than losers and conformity is to worse than missing an eye."
As mentioned, OG Maco has released various EPs and mixtapes in his career. His first mixtape, Marty McFly: The Mixtape, came out in 2011 and he continued releasing other big projects like Give Em Hell, The Lord of Rage, and Blvk Phil Collins. He is also popular for his singles such as U Guessed It, Doctor Pepper, and No Love.
