In 2012, Harry Styles and Liam Payne thought that they were running the risk of developing a sexually transmitted infection called chlamydia after a three-year-old Koala called Kat decided to urinate all over them in a sanctuary in Brisbane.
Five years later, Harry Styles cleared the air during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on April 21. The 30-year-old assured fans that he and Liam didn't indeed develop chlamydia after that koala incident.
Styles played a game with the host where he would make a facial expression confirming or rejecting a rumor about the One Direction singer. When the incident with the koala bear and chlamydia came up, Styles simply shook his head and said:
"I'd like to confirm that's not true."
In fact, there are no known cases of the disease actually being transmitted from koalas to humans.
Harry Styles and Liam Payne feared that they'd develop chlamydia that affects 80% of koalas
Liam Payne and Harry Styles thought that they had contracted chlamydia when a koala urinated on them during their friendly visit to a Brisbane animal sanctuary. The fact that more than 80 percent of koalas get affected by chlamydia only accentuated the anxiety of the One Direction singers.
In a post by Metro, they talked about Liam Payne's interview with The Sun where he opened up about this incident. Liam Payne expressed his genuine fear at that time when he realized that he ran the risk of getting chlamydia. He further said that he would never have picked up the koala had he known about it beforehand.
Although cases of humans developing chlamydia from animals are almost non-existent, the disease can cause severe problems for humans. The symptoms include painful urination, burning sensation in the urethra, pain in the testicles, and impaired reproductive system in extreme cases.
For koalas, the symptoms can be even more severe and include conjunctivitis, kidney failure, prostatitis, and urinary tract infections. After a while, the animal loses its will to live and that has caused a severe decrease in the number of koalas across the globe and has even threatened extinction.
However, there is no evidence that koalas can spread the disease to human beings. Humans can get it from other humans through unprotected intimacy and can spread through the exchange of bodily fluids. As for the One Direction boys, they didn't develop marsupial chlamydia from the three-year-old koala.

After the unveiling program at the entertainment stage outside the entrance, guests will be allowed to pose and take photos with the wax statue.
Madame Tussauds also had wax statues of the entire band, including Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan, but they were removed in 2020 after being on display for almost seven years.
