Ice Spice has already taken the internet and social media by storm with her rapping skills and dancing moves. She first went viral on TikTok for her dance on the Erica Banks Buss It Challenge. Soon after, she began to be recognized for her bold and unique fashion choices, including hairstyles. Spice propelled herself into stardom and debuted her orange afro hairstyle in the music video for No Clarity.

The Bronx-born rapper has switched her hairstyles between curled afro, straight hair, and beachy curves. Munchkins or Spice Cabinets (Ice Spice's fans) may have assumed that the Barbie World singer is a redhead. However, her real hair color is black, and she opted to wear wigs in the beginning, to match her musical persona.

Ice Spice confirms that she is not a redhead

Hairstyles can often be a distinguishing aspect for an artiste. For Ice Spice, it's her orange-copper colored hair that stands out from the rest. An old high school picture of Spice went viral on social media, which showed that she had long, straight, and jet-black hair. In a video for MTV in Feb 2023, Ice Spice confirmed that it was indeed her photo from "Junior High" and that her real hair is black.

She held the picture for her viewers and donned shoulder-length curls in her famous hair color. She explained,

"A lot of people think that my hair is naturally straight and that I wear like a curly wig or something, but my hair was straightened this day (referring to the junior school photo)."

She confirmed,

"My hair's always been curly since I was born, but, yeah, that's me."

The Princess Diana singer has been experimenting with various hairstyles. In an interview with British Vogue for an April 2023 story, she revealed that she has tried,

"pretty much every hairstyle in the book."

She added,

"Every time I change my hair, I look like a different person. I've done curly wigs, straight wigs, short wigs, long wigs; I've done braids, swoops — basically everything. I tried everything and just got back to square one."

A reason for experimentation was that Ice Spice was not initially confident about showing her naturally curled hair. In a conversation with American singer Erykah Badu for Interview Magazine, Spice noted that initially, she would only wear "hair wigs" until she released No Clarity in November 2021. She added,

"I noticed it was doing so much better than all my previous work. I don't think my fan base was ready for me to be in heels and a lace front. I think they like that I'm being myself. "

Ice Spice has undoubtedly achieved breakout success and has collaborated with music industry giants, including Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. Apart from her music, Spice is known for her authentic persona and funky hairstyles. While the Deli singer experimented with various wigs when she first started producing, she ended up sticking to her natural hairstyle, only adding the orange-bronze dye to it.
