Lauryn has enjoyed a remarkable career, marked not only by her musical achievements but also by her commitment to charity. She runs a non-profit organization called the Refugee Project, which was established in 1996. It organizes charity concerts, helps to register individuals for voting, and sends underprivileged children to camps.

They have also organized Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas parties for homeless children. In an interview with the Guardian in 2013, she elaborated on how she has used her fortune to help others. She said:

"It's all about sharing what you have, making the hip hop community be a little more responsible, just to think community-oriented."

Lauryn noted that when she started out, it was only her friends, parents, and brother. However, over time, she has been able to onboard many individuals. She added:

"It's about making this honest, innocent energy turn into an institution, so that after I'm no longer on the radio, it still exists."

Another addition to her notable contribution was her 20th-anniversary tour of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. As per the tour's announcement, a part of the ticket proceeds was donated to the MLH Foundation. The foundation supports various community-based services and initiatives.

Lauryn has organized several charity concerts over the years. In 2016, she teamed up with Jay Z's streaming service, Tidal. They hosted a three-day charity festival in Brooklyn to celebrate African music and art. In a statement to announce the festival, Lauryn said that it is aimed to celebrate "African Diaspora." She added:

"Even if we work independently, we are a resounding collective voice, both reconciling and embracing our relationship to history, our origins, our future and to ourselves.”

In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Lauryn voiced her support for the black community and said:

“As artists, we have an opportunity to help the public evolve, raise consciousness and awareness, teach, heal, enlighten and inspire in ways the democratic process may not be able to touch. So we keep it moving.”

In November 2022, the singer teamed up with the Tom Joyner Foundation for her recent philanthropic venture. She joined the foundation's Ultimate Party With a Purpose in 2023. The party raised money for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Lauryn Hill has leveraged her popularity to organize various charity initiatives. Her most notable contribution is the Refugee Project, which continues to help individuals to date. Hill has also been a strong advocate for equality and celebrating African artistry. Currently, Lauryn is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her first solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. She is next scheduled to perform on August 16 at the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta.
