American rapper Meek Mill defended entrepreneur Michael Rubin for his statement on Black culture via X on August 15, 2024. Meek's statement defending Michael Rubin comes after the entrepreneur's appearance on The Breakfast Club on August 15, 2024.
Michael Rubin commented on the rumors of his friend Meek Mill being in a relationship with Diddy, which started in April 2024. He addressed a clip of Meek doing bunny hops after losing a bet to Michael and questioned,
"Why do people want to change the narrative of a bet he made with me to hurt him?,”
Michael continued,
“That is the one thing I’ve learned about… you know, look, I’m just being blunt because it’s me. It’s the one thing I’ve learned about Black culture that I don’t like is that Black hate on hate.”
"Rubin shouldn’t be saying that type stuff out loud" — Meek Mill mentions in a tweet defending Michael Rubin
During his appearance at The Breakfast Club, Michael Rubin addressed rumors of Meek Mill being in a relationship with Diddy and stated,
“Number one, If people wanna be gay, it is 2024. Who the f**k cares? Number two, there’s not a gay bone in his body, so why do people wanna lie about that?"
While he defended his friend, Michael's comment on black culture led to the entrepreneur receiving a lot of backlash on social media. Defending his friend, Meek Mill took to X and tweeted,
"Rubin shouldn’t be saying that type stuff out loud … a black man suppose to but nobody saying it… Its like we only collab on songs women and parties… he be hearing my friends getting murdered like why meek, I can’t explain it to him in a sensible way!"
Michael also took to X to apologize for his comment and mentioned that he got a call from a person who he has the most respect for in the world and he was told that while his intention was appreciated, it wasn't his place to speak about black culture. Mentioning that he appreciates the input, the entrepreneur mentioned,
"My intention was to say how important it is that we need to uplift each other, stop hate on each other, and push each other to win, and always root for each other’s success!"
Michael Rubin is not the only person refuting the rumors of Meek Mill being in a relationship with Diddy. Meek himself took to X on February 29, 2024, to state that he has the right to say that he isn't gay. In another tweet, on April 8, 2024, Meek Mill stated,
"I don’t believe no Diddy story once they lied about me now! Anybody try to s*xually assault me it will be a bang out on the spot how yall don’t know that lol I don’t care but yall confusing my son he’s 12 with people saying his dad gay it’s sick now outchea so f**k it lol"
Rumors surrounding the rapper began after Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones claimed in his $30 million lawsuit against Diddy that the rapper had slept with “a Philadelphia rapper who dated Nicki Minaj.” While Rodney did not mention a name, internet users speculated that since a relationship with Nicki Minaj was mentioned, the person in question was Meek.
