On May 25, 2018, Nicki Minaj took to Instagram to announce the release of Big Bank - a YG track that featured her, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz. Minaj uploaded a video of herself lip-syncing a short verse of her rap on the track, which goes:
"Told ’em I met Slim Shady. Bagged an EM"
The line insinuated that Minaj might be dating, and when a fan asked the same in comments, she responded with a "yes". This led to Eminem's participation in the comments, writing: "Girl, you know it's true."
Minaj replied to the rapper's comment with: “Babe, I thought we were gonna keep it on the low til the wedding. Yikes. I’ll talk to you when I get home.”

October 2010: Minaj and Eminem work together on Roman's Revenge
On October 30, 2010, Nicki Minaj dropped Roman's Revenge - which was perceived as a diss track aimed at her rival at the time, Lil Kim. The track marked Minaj's first and only collaboration with Eminem.
Both rappers assumed the voices of their alter egos in the song - Nicki became Roman Zolanski, and Eminem became Slim Shady. Roman's Revenge peaked at number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was later added to Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday. The rapper called it "the most fun song on Pink Friday" in a 2010 MTV interview.
May 2011: Eminem initiates a play-fight with Nicki Minaj in Fast Lane
Roughly half a year after the release of Roman's Revenge, the duo of Eminem and Royce da 5'9" - Bad Meets Evil - released their debut EP titled Hell: The Sequel. Fast Lane, the lead single of the EP, dropped on YouTube on May 3, 2011.
Eminem's rap verse in the track included an explicit line about Nicki Minaj - which was seen as a form of ribald play-fighting. He addressed Minaj as a "nice, nice lady" about whom he had been thinking lately, then stated his desire to gain the carnal knowledge of her body.
July 2013: Nicki hits back at Eminem in Ciara's I'm Out
It took Nicki Minaj two years but she finally hit the Mockingbird rapper back with the explicit version of Ciara's I'm out.
In the track - which was released on July 1, 2013, - Minaj lambasted Emimen by saying:
"Man, f*** you and your lady, gun butt you, 'cause you Shady."
December 2014: Eminem praises Minaj in Vegas
On December 28, 2014, the Bad Meets Evil duo shared a screen after a long time on Vegas - a track in which Em gave Minaj's Lookin A** a nod by commenting her ice-related pun from the song, saying:
"Hundred on the wrist, I ski/ You’re lucky just to follow my ride/ If I let you run alongside the Humvee/ Unless you’re Nicki, grab you by the wrist, let’s ski."
October 2016: Nicki wishes Eminem Happy Birthday on Instagram
On October 18, Nicki Minaj took to Instagram to wish Eminem a "Happy Birthday". In the caption of the post, Minaj reminisced their collaboration from six years ago, then sending the rapper love.
Eminem was quick to respond to her wish and gave her a special shout-out when thanking everyone for their birthday wishes on X. Nicki later shared a screenshot of his tweet on her Instagram handle as well.
October 2017: Nicki Minaj calls Eminem "an influence" in an XXL interview
In October 2017, XXL magazine celebrated its 20th anniversary by doing features on 20 of the biggest hip-hop artists, one of which was Nicki Minaj. When asked who were the most important hip-hop artists in the last 20 years, the Truffle Butter rapper said:
“As a fan of rap, I think I would say the people that have influenced me the most with the way I rap, that would definitely be Lil Wayne, JAY-Z, Foxy Brown, Eminem.”
May 2018: Eminem asks the crowd at Boston Calling Festival if he should date Nicki Minaj
Soon after Minaj's Instagram post about Big Bank, the rumors of her dating the Renegade rapper ran wild.
Addressing these rumors at his concert at the Boston Calling Festival in May 2018, Eminem asked the crowd if he should date Nicki Minaj. When fans reacted enthusiastically to it, the rapper said:
"Well, goddammit, me too... Nicki, if you get this message, just text me later, we’ll talk about it."
Nicki Minaj later responded to it in a tweet, calling Em "a good" like herself, and stating that their first date should be in a studio.
However, in all seriousness, the Only rapper was dating Kenneth Petty at the time and tied the knot with him a year later.
