On December 20, 2023, Nicki Minaj returned to Stephen Colbert's The Late Show for a second time to promote her latest studio album, Pink Friday 2. Minaj had already developed a camaraderie with the host the last time she was there, and the two quickly picked up from where they left off in 2018.

As Colbert held up the cover art for the AI extension of Minaj's album with Gag City with himself photoshopped into it, the rapper complimented him as the "most handsome man on TV in Gag City."

Nicki followed up with a short rap demonstration, which led to a brief rap battle between the duo. She started with:

"High heels on for Stevie / If I marry Stevie he ain’t never gon’ leave me."

Colbert responded with:

"High heels or not, Nicki / You better hope you never meet my wife Evie."

The host's reference to his wife being upset with the rapper drew from their last interview when Nicki said some explicit things about him in a rap.

Nicki Minaj made her first appearance on Stephen Colbert's The Late Show on August 14, 2018. The Only rapper's appearance as a guest on the show was in an effort to promote her recently released fourth studio album, Queen.

Soon after welcoming Minaj on the show, Stephen Colbert pulled out the cover art for Nicki's album, showing it to the audience as he asked her about the inspiration behind it, to which she said:

"There's kind of like a warfare Goddess, you can look her up [on Google], and so we took that as an image and we worked with that and kind of built to it and created this very angelic image of me."

Stephen praised the cover art as "very regal" and went on to talk about the songs of her album. One song from the album, in particular, was receiving a lot of attention, Colbert pointed out, mentioning Barbie Dreams.

The host then mentioned that Nicki Minaj had named some famous men in the song, stating without any particular reason why they would not be able to "as the kids say, 'get with you'." Following the statement, Colbert listed those men, starting with Drake, 50 Cents, Eminem, DJ Khaled, and Meek Mill, then adding:

"But I noticed that I'm not on the list of men... it's a pretty comprehensive list, and I'm just curious that, if I were to make the list, how would you inform me?"

Nicki Minaj instantly came up with a rap in response to Colbert's question, saying:

"I might f*** Stephen after the show/ he's gonna back to work with a magical glow/ but when you see us please [beep] don't stare/ Just address me as Queen Nicki Colbert."

Stephen, who was flustered beyond expectation, managed to say, "Well, it's all downhill from here." To this, the Starships rapper asked him if he was married, with the host stutteringly replying with an affirmative.

Beyond their iconic rap battle, Stephen and Nicki also touched on other aspects of life on The Late Show in December 2023. Colbert addressed the fact that the Swalla rapper had become a mother since she had last appeared on the show, asking her what surprised her the most about this new role. To that, Minaj said:

"My life was so selfish before he came here. Since this little human came onto Planet Earth, I can’t do anything without thinking about him first. There’s this thing that happens every day when I see his face, which is more than anything money could buy in the world. So, I’m really happy I pushed him out!”

When asked about the reason behind calling her son "Papa Bear," Nicki replied that she was "just a nicknames person." There was no mention of what his real name was.

Three months after her interview with The Late Show, Nicki Minaj kicked off her Pink Friday 2 world tour in March 2024. The rapper is now close to its completion and will wrap it up on October 11 in New York.
