Nicki Minaj has been considered the queen of the rap world for a long time now. The rapper has associations with most of her fellow artists, both new and old, and Wizkid happens to be one of them.
In a recent StationHead stream, the Blazin rapper praised the Nigerian singer-songwriter, sharing her admiration for him by saying:
"He [Wizkid] is a very very cool chill guy. He’s really that guy, very smart. I have much love and respect for him.”
Nicki Minaj also talked about the beginning of her friendship with Wizkid, stating that the two first met when the rapper was in the studio, working on recording her 2018 album, Queen.
Nicki Minaj plays an unreleased song with Wizkid
Originally named Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, Wizkid entered the music industry in 2009, when he was 19, and released his debut studio album - Superstar - two years later.
In 2017, Nicki Minaj posted a photo of herself with Wizkid, chilling on a couch with her name lit on the wall behind them. Rumors of the duo's collaboration have been circulating ever since, but neither has confirmed them so far.
However, in her recent Instagram Live session on August 17, the Freedom rapper surprised her fans by playing an old collaboration with Wizkid which she claimed to have recorded eight years ago. The name and release status of the song remain unknown as of now.
Minaj hints at songs included in her upcoming deluxe LP
On Tuesday night, August 20, Nicki Minaj went live on Instagram to treat the Barbz to "some new little vibes" from her upcoming deluxe LP - Pink Friday 2: Gag City Reloaded.
Some of the tracks that she previewed in the Live session included Anxiety, Okay, and Mamita, which the 41-year-old rapper hinted would feature more artists.
Nicki then talked further about Anxiety, sharing with her fans that she wrote it while she was pregnant with her son in 2020. Minaj also revealed that it was written on the same day when she "cooked up a hook" for the album's outro, Just The Memories.
"'Another day of anxiety/ I hate this society/ How do you expect me to maintain my sobriety/ If I’m not your cup of tea, okay there’s variety/ I miss all the rappers that are dead now' — that's what I said," Nicki commented.
The rapper continued:
"I just left it and I never came back to that. I never came back to it until a couple of days ago. So I just wrote up the verses."
Another song played on Nicki Minaj's Live session was Arctic Tundra, her collaboration with the late Juice WRLD, who passed away in December 2019 from an accidental drug overdose. The MotorSport rapper asked what her fans thought of the track, and then explained why she thought it deserved to be on the album, saying:
"It would be incredible for me I think to have Juice WRLD on this album. Because before he passed that’s what we were talking about. He recorded a bunch of stuff when he was in my studio but I don’t like to exploit people, and people’s deaths and stuff like that."
In the same Instagram Live session, the Anaconda rapper also previewed an unreleased collaboration with her friend and fellow rapper Drake. The track, although unnamed, seemed to have upbeat vibes and island-inspired instrumentals.
Nicki announced the release date of her upcoming deluxe LP on her Instagram handle on Monday, August 26. Pink Friday 2: Gag City Reloaded will be dropping on streaming services on September 13, 2024.
