Michael Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson recently confirmed through social media that she has been sober for almost five years. The singer and actress was addicted to heroin for several years and even got herself admitted to a treatment facility to get proper care for her emotional health, as per Page Six.

Paris shared a video through her Instagram page on January 7, 2024. The video started with moments featuring her drinking and smoking on various occasions. This was followed by clips where she was spotted enjoying her life without being addicted to anything.

Paris Jackson's video also included a glimpse of one of her stage performances and spending time with a pet. The video ended with a statement which reads:

"To those who helped me on this journey, if only for just the beginning, middle, or the whole time so far, you know who you are and I owe you my life. Thank you. 5 years. Thank God."

The Gringo star wrote in her caption that she has been "clean & sober" from all kinds of drugs and alcohol for five years and expressed her happiness about the same by saying:

"I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all it's glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it's warm. I've found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I'm sober or not, but today I get to show up for it."

Paris Jackson got addicted to drugs during her teenage years

While Paris recently celebrated her sobriety, the 26-year-old addressed how she got addicted to drugs while speaking to the London Evening Standard in 2021. She recalled that following her father's death, she was sent to The Buckley School and she attempted to write some lyrics by herself at the age of 13.

However, Paris Jackson developed an addiction to drugs when she turned 15 and was also battling other problems such as grief and depression at the same time. She later joined a reform school after trying to kill herself and met Paris Hilton, who opened up about her ongoing alleged abuse in 2020. Paris even showcased her support for Hilton in an Instagram Story the same year and wrote:

"As a girl who also went to a behaviour modification "boarding school" for almost two years as a teenager, and has since been diagnosed with PTSD because of it and continue to have nightmares and trust issues, I stand with @ParisHilton and the other survivors."

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2017, Paris Jackson addressed her experience of joining the reform school, saying she became a different person. She further stated that getting involved in modeling activities was also like therapy for her. She addressed the same by saying:

"Plenty of people think I'm ugly, and plenty of people don't. But there's a moment when I'm modelling where I forget about my self-esteem issues and focus on what the photographer's telling me and I feel pretty. And in that sense, it's selfish."

Paris Jackson has not announced any new album after Wilted, released in 2020. However, she has a film titled One Spoon of Chocolate in the upcoming lineup, which features Shameik Moore in the lead and is helmed by rapper and record producer RZA.
