Post Malone is an American singer, rapper, and a 10-time Grammy award nominee. From his first single, White Iverson to his recent hit Fortnight with Taylor Swift, Malone has paved his way in the music industry. Born in Syracuse, New York the Circles singer's real name is Austin Richard Post.

Malone is not the only singer with a stage name in the industry, for example, American singer Rihanna's real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, The Weekend's real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, and many others.

The story behind his stage name is not a complicated one. Though it was rumoured that 'Malone' is a reference to basketball player, Karl Malone, The Rockstar singer has revealed on multiple occasions that he got that part of his name from a random rap name generator, and 'Post' is his last name.

The story behind Post Malone's stage name

Malone has reached professional heights with many songs, including Sunflower, Congratulations, Circle, and many others with billion streams on YouTube and Spotify.

Malone was born Austin Richard Post and became interested in music in his early teens. With each year, Malone kept adding a new tattoo to his body and is famously recognized for his face tattoos. While most of his tattoos hold meaning, the story behind his stage name is quite random.

Back in 2011, Malone made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon Show and revealed that he started calling himself Post Malone when he was "14 or 15" years old. In an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in August 2023 with host Alex Cooper. She asked questions to the singer about his life, career, and name. Cooper asked him if Post Malone is an alter ego. He responded,

“Everything is me, my name is Austin, everyone calls me Austin.”

Post Malone revealed that "everyone calls" him Austin. He disclosed,

"Whenever I introduce myself, I always say Austin."

For a video with Esquire in November 2023, the singer and rapper answered some of the commonly asked questions by his fans. It is romoured that part of his stage name, 'Malone' was inspired by the professional basketball player, Karl Malone, while 'Post' is his last name. In the Q&A, he mentioned that he decided on the name Post Malone by searching for suggestions on a random online rap name generator.

He added,

"I wanted something cool like Wiz Khalifa, coz that's such a cool name."

When answering if there were any other runner-up names, he jokingly said,

"I was going to use Wiz Khalifa as my name, but that may have caused problems. I never expected to be like famous or anything."

Post chose the name Post Malone in his early teens and it has been his professional name ever since. While he did not expect to become this famous, Malone has been nominated for various Grammy awards and delivered various chart-topping hits. Most recently, Malone worked with Taylor Swift and featured on her Dead Poet's Society album.

He also collaborated with Extra Posty and released I Had Some Help which has reached the number-one spot on three Billboard Charts. Post Malone has also announced his F-1 Trillion Tour, 2024 that will kick off in Salt Lake City.
