Post Malone opened up about his admiration and love for Taylor Swift and shared one interesting anecdote about the 14-time Grammy winner in an October 17, 2023 interview on The Howard Stern Show. The 29-year-old recently collaborated with Taylor for her first track of The Tortured Poets Department called Fortnight.
Talking candidly with Howard Stern, Malone recalled a time when Taylor Swift had praised him for his work. The Circles singer raved about Taylor and talked about their encounter at the backstage of the 2018 Billboard Music Awards where she said that she was blown away by his 2018 song Better Now.
“We were just passing by and she was like, ‘Oh my God! Nice to see you. ‘Better Now’ if f—in’ amazing!’," Malone quoted Taylor Swift from that encounter.
Post Malone couldn't stop praising Taylor Swift's persona and songwriting prowess in front of Howard Stern. That was especially true because he had described himself as a high school outcast in the past and getting lauded by the four-time Grammy Album of the Year winner was really special for him.
"There’s so many beautiful artists in the world and for another artist to acknowledge that is a really, really b–chin’ thing. It’s a really special thing. That was a really cool moment and it was very inspiring,” commented Malone about Taylor.
In the same conversation, Howard Stern elaborated on the unfathomable success of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour with a simple anecdote. He explained that Taylor could take the revenue from the tour and give every American a twenty dollar bill and still have money left in her Eras Tour account.
However Malone was not surprised by her popularity and highlighted that Taylor maintained her humility despite her fame.
“It’s f—in’ so cool. It’s so cool. I recently got to hang out with her and she is genuinely one of the most kind and considerate and a f—in’ hell of a songwriter. Holy s–t, amazing,” elaborated Malone about Taylor's persona.
Taylor Swift and Post Malone collaborated in Taylor's latest chart-busting album
Wide-eyed fans got an inkling of a potential collaboration between Taylor Swift and Post Malone when the latter started following Taylor on Instagram. She was one of only 31 people followed by the Post Malone.
On February 4, Taylor finally provided confirmation of the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department during her Grammy Best Pop Vocal Album award acceptance speech.
Two months later, she dropped the release date of Fortnight featuring Post Malone on Instagram and lauded Malone's musical sense and his inclination to experiment with tunes and lyrics.
"The first single from The Tortured Poets Department is…………. Fortnight featuring @postmalone I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever," wrote Taylor on Instagram.
The Fortnight music video also featured Post Malone and he was the love interest of Taylor Swift. The connection to their on-screen relationship was shown quite innovatively as splashes of colors emanated from their typewriters in a world of monochrome.
The film was a tribute to 1989's Dead Poets Society and also featured Josh Charles and Ethan Hawke as eccentric scientists who were trying to perform experiments on Taylor in a Frankenstein-esque way.
After the release of Fortnight, Post Malone took to X and expressed his elation on being able to collaborate with Taylor Swift.
"It’s once in a lifetime that someone like @taylorswift13 comes into this world. I am floored by your heart and your mind, and I am beyond honored to have been asked to help you with your journey. I love you so much. Thank you Tay," tweeted Malone.
Despite getting divided reviews by critics, Fortnight broke all kinds of records on Spotify. The song was the most streamed track on Spotify in the history of the streaming platform and debuted at the peak of Billboard Hot 100 chart.
As of this writing, the music video has 94 million views on YouTube and has over 530 million streams on Spotify!
