Social media was set abuzz after Jojo Siwa's performance at Brown University. On Monday, November 11, the singer and dancer made a guest appearance at the university's De Ciccio Family Auditorium at the Salomon Center. Besides having a conversation with the students, the singer also did a small impromptu performance on stage.

Videos shared on social media showcased the pop star performing her 2024 hit track Karma. Siwa sported a white tank top, cargo shorts, and black boots, alongside her sunglasses, as she performed the song with a backing track and accompanied it with her iconic dance. Siwa also seemed to be getting cheered on by the Brown crowd.

Subsequently, social media users were seemingly shocked by what they were seeing, as most couldn't figure out why Siwa was invited to Brown University. One X user, @alessio_joseph, tweeted:

"What stage of societal decline is this."

Similar reactions followed, as a few netizens noted how this was one of the "funniest" things they'd ever seen. Meanwhile, for others, the performance was simply "rough." Here are a few X reactions to Jojo Siwa's Brown University appearance:

"Sorry but this is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen," commented one X user.
"This is rough," added another user.
"I’m crying to hard because I dance better in my bedroom mirror," joked a user.

A slew of other social media users asked how the crowd knew all the lyrics and why they showed up and cheered.

"Notice how they know the lyrics. let’s ask the real questions," noted one netizen.
"And you know this was scheduled in the morning too. its 7 in the morning... its 7 in the morning," another netizen expressed disbelief.
"Why are they cheering, I thought her demographic was 10 year olds???" asked one social media user.
"They were willing to pay for THIS???" asked yet another netizen.

Jojo Siwa opened up about her career and sexuality

As mentioned earlier, Jojo Siwa arrived at Brown University's Salomon DECI for a guest talk. According to The Brown Daily Herald, Siwa gave a sneak performance of her upcoming track Iced Coffee, which was set for a November 22 release and a November 13 TikTok sneak peek.

The performer further opened up about her sexuality, and how her coming out at the age of 17 impacted her career. The singer noted how her case was different, as unlike other child stars, she came out as a lesbian while still a child star. According to Siwa, the world didn't know how to react to the news as people hadn't seen this before.

Despite the slew of extreme reactions it received, Jojo Siwa was still proud of her decision to do so. She said:

"It has led my career in really cool ways. I’ve gotten to shine light on how your sexuality isn’t something that’s weird, it’s something to be proud of."

Jojo Siwa further added that although she could have been "set for life" if she kept doing what she had done as a child star, she realized that it wasn’t where her passion was at anymore, as her passion was to go into the world of gay pop. Siwa later opened up about her social media presence, revealing that this was how she planned her career.

Although she always kept it entertaining, the Dance Moms alum noted that there was a "more emotional side" of her. Siwa added:

"I live a great life, and I love to share it. Yes, there is more, but what you see is what you get."

Furthermore, Jojo Siwa talked about dealing with online hate, and how she dealt with it by surrounding herself with her "bubble of people." The singer also related to the students in attendance, who were of similar age to her, as she engaged in conversation with them.
