P!nk shared a behind-the-scenes moment between her and her daughter Willow moments before their performance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday, August 22. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the 44-year-old veteran singer took to Instagram and shared footage of a pep talk she gave her 13-year-old daughter Willow before taking the stage together. The singer told Willow,
"Just do your thing. Whatever you don’t sing, I will. It's going to be brilliant. Ok? I'll be ready,"
P!nk and Willow made a surprise DNC appearance on Thursday to perform a rendition of the singer's 2017 hit track What About Us together. At the end of the night, Vice President Kamala Harris took to the stage to deliver her nomination acceptance speech.
P!nk and Willow have previously performed together multiple times
P!nk shared an Instagram carousel on Tuesday, showcasing a few moments from her performance at the DNC and her Summer Carnival Tour. She captioned her post:
"It’s been a busy few weeks 😮💨😎 #SummerCarnivalTour"
The first on the carousel was backstage footage of the singer giving a pep talk to her daughter Willow Sage Hart before the duo performed What About Us together.
Right after the singer reassured her daughter to just do her thing, the lights dimmed and a person from the production crew could be heard giving the go-ahead signal. Another person backstage wished her luck as the mother-daughter duo, along with three other backing singers and one guitarist, took the stage.
The singer and her team's entry were met with applause from the energetic crowd at Chicago's United Center. P!nk began the song and the crowd cheered on as Willow sang her first verse. The mother/daughter duo sang together:
"What about us? / What about all the times you said you had the answers?"
At the end of the song, Willow and her mom also shared a hug on the center stage of the DNC. Willow is the oldest child of P!nk and her off-road truck racer husband, Carey Hart. Born on June 2, 2011, the 13-year-old served as the inspiration for her mother's 2016 track Just Like Fire from the movie Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Willow was featured on a tribute album for the 2017 hit musical The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman, titled The Greatest Showman: Reimagined when she was 7. A YouTube video with over 48 million views shared by Atlantic Records in 2018 showcases the mother and daughter duo performing the track A Million Dreams together.
Two years later, in 2020, Willow and her mother once again performed Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song for ABC Network's The Disney Holiday Singalong. In February 2021, the duo dropped the track Cover Me In Sunshine, which marked Willow's debut on the Billboard Global 200.
Following the success of the song, the mother/daughter duo even performed the track at that year's Billboard Music Awards in a stunning performance featuring a plethora of acrobatic aerial stunts. Willow also performed the track alongside her mother during the first night of the singer's Summer Carnival 2023 tour in the UK, only a few days after her 12th birthday.
Willow's father, Carey Hart, took to Instagram to express his delight at seeing the duo perform together. He wrote in a June 2023 post:
"So proud of Willz to get up on stage w/ mama @pink !!!!! Must be a surreal moment for mama to have w/ her lil girl on stage 😢. Looks like 1st show of the tour kicked a*s!!!!! Can’t wait to catch up end of this month and see for myself. Summer is grind time ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻."
Apart from Willow, Carey Hart and P!nk are also parents to a 7-year-old son, Jameson Moon Hart.
