Beyoncé and Jay-Z had their first child, Blue Ivy, in 2012 and welcomed their twins Rumi and Sir in 2017. In a 2019 interview with Elle, Beyoncé shared tidbits about striking the right balance between being a wife, mother, and performing.
"I think the most stressful thing for me is balancing work and life. Making sure I am present for my kids, dropping Blue off at school, taking Rumi and Sir to their activities, making time for date nights with my husband, and being home in time to have dinner with my family — all while running a company can be challenging," Beyoncé said.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z opened up about responsibilities and the value of time in an appearance on Kevin Hart's Hart to Heart series in 2022. The 24-time Grammy winner explained the value of making time for family, especially his children.
"Time is all you have. That's the only thing we control. It's how you spend your time. Every second that you spend, you're spending away from the development of these people that you brought here, that you love more than anything in the world. So what are you going to spend that time on? That changed practically everything for me," explained Jay-Z.
Everything to know about Beyoncé's 3 kids
Blue Ivy Carter
Blue Ivy was born on January 7, 2012. Queen Bey's firstborn started making records at the tender age of nine. She became the second-youngest winner of the prestigious Grammy for her role in Beyoncé and WizKid's Brown Skin Girl. She also won an MTV Video Music Award in 2021 for the same performance.
Blue also narrated an entire audiobook called Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry in November 2020, where the author narrates a heartwarming tale of a father who learns to do his daughter's hair after her mother gets hospitalized.
Beyoncé often takes her on tours where she surprises fans with her guest appearances. The 12-year-old made many such appearances during Queen Bey's Renaissance Tour. She also accompanied her mom during the unveiling of her new hair care line called Cecred.
"A good time was had by all !!! Thanks to the supportive group of positive people that attended and thank you for all the love that we have gotten. Since the time since we launched! The product is really groundbreaking," captioned Beyoncé in an Instagram post about the event.
Blue has enjoyed public moments with Jay-Z too. She was with the rapper when he accepted Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammys and also got a shoutout from her father.
“Thank you very much. I used to say it was a sippy cup for Blue, but Blue’s grown up now she doesn’t take sippy cups and she has her own Grammys,” quipped Jay-Z.
Beyoncé's eldest daughter has also showcased her flair for acting at a tender age. While her mother earned all the acclaim for voicing Nala in 2019's reprised version of The Lion King, she will voice Simba and Nala's daughter Kiara in 2024's Mufasa: The Lion King.
Rumi and Sir Carter
In her documentary, Homecoming, Beyoncé explained the difficulties she had to endure when the singer was pregnant with Rumi and Sir.
"My body went through more than I knew it could,” explained Beyoncé in the documentary.
In an August 2018 interview with Vogue, she also revealed that she weighed over 200 lbs just before giving birth.
"I was swollen from toxemia and had been on bed rest for over a month. My health and my babies’ health were in danger, so I had an emergency C-section. We spent many weeks in the NICU. My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me," explained Queen Bey in the interview.
The Cowboy Carter singer realized that her body had had a paradigm shift after her pregnancy and turned to veganism in order to accept the change and take care of herself better.
"After the C-section, my core felt different. It had been major surgery. Some of your organs are shifted temporarily, and in rare cases, removed temporarily during delivery," explained Beyoncé.
Beyoncé and her husband have been private about the development of Sir and Rumi and have hardly shared details about their childhood. However, the singer shared a rare clip of her twins during a video announcement of her film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.
The clip shows Sir and Rumi being affectionate with their mom and big sister Blue. Queen Bey kisses Sir and carries him in a golf cart while Rumi is seen stretching beside her mom and Blue.
Rumi featured in Queen Bey's new album Cowboy Carter. At the beginning of the song Protector, she appears and asks her mom, "Can I be a lullaby please?"
Members of the BeyHive are always excited about any new information about Queen Bey's three children and hope that the singer releases more clips of Blue, Rumi, and Sir for them to melt over in the future.
