Ice Spice rose to popularity after her song, Munchin (Feeling You) went viral on YouTube in 2022. The Bronx rapper's song accumulated around 3 billion views on its hashtag on TikTok. Along with many fans of hip-hop and rap songs, the track also caught the attention of Canadian singer and rapper Drake. Munchin (Feeling You) was further popularised on Drake's radio show Sound 42 in September 2022.
While it is unclear when Drake and Spice first became friends, the former invited her to the 2022 edition of OVO Fest. According to Complex magazine, fans noticed that after the fest Drake, unfollowed Spice on Instagram. Some months later in 2023, The Shade Room was the first to spot and report that Drake had re-followed Ice Spice on Instagram.
Did Drake refollow Ice Spice after previously unfollowing her?
After Drake played Spice's track on his radio show in 2022, it was speculated that the two had developed a friendship. However, this speculation came to an end after Drake unfollowed Ice Spice on Instagram in 2022. During an appearance on BET’s Rap City 22, Ice Spice spoke about her first meeting with Drake.
She told host DJ Blue Diamond that when Drake messaged her during her Munch Open Mic and said:
"Yo, ‘Munch’ is hard."
He subsequently invited her to the OVO Fest in 2022. In an interview with RapCaviar, Spice spoke about her meeting with the One Dance singer and said:
“He’s mad nice and respectful."
When DJ Blue Diamond brought up that Drake had unfollowed her, Spice admitted to the fact and reported that she "didn't know" the reason as well. However, she added that "it's okay" and said that "it's all love."
In 2023, The Shade Room reported that Drake had re-followed the Barbie World singer. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Spice talked about her relationship with Drake and noted that the duo speak "all the time." She said:
"I'll ask him, 'What should I do with this? Or how'd you go about this? Or did you ever experience that?' And he'll...I'm not going to give real examples, but...he'll tell me, 'I did this and you should do that too, because you can."
In another interview with the New York Times, she reiterated that there is no beef between the two. She said,
“We’re cool."
While Ice Spice has clarified the nature of their relationship, Drake has not made any public comments about this. For now, both the rappers follow each other on Instagram.
Ice Spice is currently on her Y2K world tour and is next scheduled to perform at the Plaine De La Machine A Feu, Dour, Berlin. The singer also revealed that her Y2K album is expected to release on July 26. After her alleged fallout with Drake, Ice Spice was re-followed by Drake in 2023.
Apart from Drake, Spice had previously revealed to Billboard that she also sees Nicki Minaj as her mentor and has a lot to learn from her.
