Ludacris' Alaska video: Is consumption of glacier water safe?

Ludacris’ recent post has stirred a debate on social media. While Lucadris has not been the first person to consume glacier water, it is generally not safe for consumption, partially because it is not processed and treated for human use.

It is a known fact that untreated water can cause many health hazards, as proper treatment ensures filtration and the addition of minerals to the water. As per Science Direct, water from the glacier consists of high arsenic and manganese concentrations, which can be hazardous for humans.

Furthermore, there is always a risk of germs, faecal matter, bacteria, pathogens and even small rocks that can disrupt the digestive system, and other organs. In a 2018 report, Outside Magazine also reported that a geologist, Michael Loso conducted research where he proved that there is faecal matter in glacial water.

As per Green Matters, the U.S. National Parks Service has also recommended not drinking water that has not been processed. The U.S. National Parks Service (NPS) website states:

"Water in a stream, river or lake may look clean, but it can still be filled with bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can result in waterborne diseases, such as cryptosporidiosis or giardiasis. It is essential that you purify natural water."

While it cannot be denied that glaciers are important for several other factors like irrigation, hydroelectric power, and much more, however, the consumption of the same is not recommended.

At the moment, Ludacris has not yet commented on the reactions of the masses, as many asked him not to drink the water without proper filtration.
