Nicki Minaj has been in the rap industry for more than a decade, and like any other rapper, has had feuds with fellow artists. Some of the rappers that Minaj has exchanged disses with include Remy Ma, Lil' Kim, Cardi B, and Mariah Carey.
Minaj's feud with Megan Thee Stallion happens to be her most recent one, starting in January 2021 when the Bang Bang rapper first unfollowed Megan on Instagram. The seemingly insignificant act led to the two rappers exchanging diss tracks and accusations on social media.
Megan Thee Stallion, who's currently 29, made a debut in the rap industry in 2016 with her debut track, Like a Stallion.
Timeline of Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion's complicated history
August 2019: Nicki Minaj appeared on Megan Thee Stallion's Hot Girl Summer
The first time Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion came together to create music was in 2019, for Hot Girl Summer. The song, which featured Ty Dolla Sign alongside Minaj, was released on August 9 and peaked at number 7 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
August 2020: Megan joined Cardi B in WAP, Minaj showed love
A year after Hot Girl Summer was out, Megan and Cardi B collaborated on WAP. The track debuted atop Billboard soon after its release. However, Nicki still remained cordial towards Megan, complimenting her in a Variety feature published on August 5, 2020, saying:
“One of my favorite things about Meg is her desire to further her education. It’s so important for women to feel inspired to achieve goals outside of social media, where the focus is usually placed on their bodies or who they’re dating at the time."
The Swalla rapper continued:
"Women are more than just baby mamas, and we can continue to prove that by being goal oriented, bettering ourselves and being independent. Megan is the perfect example that we can have fun and be smart at the same time.”
January 2021: Nicki Minaj unfollowed Megan Thee Stallion on Instagram
While things appeared to be going well between Megan and Minaj so far, Nicki Minaj unfollowed the Cry Baby rapper on Instagram out of the blues. It didn't take Megan long to return the favor, and the artists haven't followed each other again since then.
May 2021: Minaj throws her first diss at Megan in Seeing Green
On May 14, Nicki Minaj re-issued her 2009 mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty, with Republic Records. A day later, the music video of Seeing Green dropped on YouTube. The track featured Drake and Lil Wayne alongside Minaj, with the alcoholic comment in her rap verse aimed as a jab at Stallion:
"One Margarita pizza with Parmesan and garlic. These b****es thirsty I can see why they alcoholics."
September 2022: Minaj hints at Megan allegedly forcing her to drink while trying to get pregnant
In an episode of her Queen Radio on September 11, 2022, Nicki Minaj accused the SAVAGE rapper by indirectly saying:
"Imagine telling someone you didn’t want to drink because you were, at the time, possibly pregnant. Because you were actively having a baby. Imagine if that person said, 'Oh girl, you can go to the clinic.'"
The Hey Mama rapper also pointed out that "the person" didn't initially like or comment on her pregnancy photos, but later sent her flowers after Beyoncé did, seeing it as "an opportunity."
When fans asked Stallion about the allegations Minaj had made, the rapper called them "LIE" in a September 12 tweet.
March 2023: Minaj's Red Ruby Da Sleeze takes a hit at Megan Thee Stallion
Six months later, on March 3, Nicki's Red Ruby Da Sleeze was released. Belonging to her fifth studio album, the track took a hit at Megan Thee Stallion. Minaj's first reference to Megan in the track stemmed from her Super Bowl commercial with Dorito, about which she rapped:
"Dorito b****es be mad they nachos"
The Side to Side rapper also dissed at the July 2020 shooting incident between Megan and Tory Lanez, which sent him to prison. For the unversed, Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan in the foot while leaving a pool party at Kylie Jenner's home. Minaj rapped:
"That .40 cal a make them dance like a go-go"
January 2024: Megan claps back at Minaj with her diss track Hiss
After taking on several hits by Nicki, Megan decided it was time to clap back. On January 26, the BOA rapper released her own diss track, Hiss. Minaj was just one of the artists that Megan's track aimed at.
She brought up Megan's Law to take a hit at Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, being a registered s*x offender. The lyrics read:
"These h**s don’t be mad at Megan, these h–s mad at Megan’s Law/ I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start/ B***h, you a p***y, never finna check me/ Every chance you get, bet your weak ass won’t address me."
Soon after its release, Hiss topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. On her part, Nicki Minaj didn't wait long to hit back. Three days later, her diss track Big Foot was dropped, which allegedly swiped at Megan's late mother, at her rapping abilities, and lastly at her foot, which was shot by Lanez in 2020.
The part of Minaj's rap addressing her mother included:
"How you go on Gayle King and can’t cry? Chile, bye/ Big foot, but you still a small fry/ Swearin’ on your dead mother when you lie."
The very title of the track hinted at the 6-foot-tall rapper, whom she called Big Foot in it. However, Minaj denied calling it a diss track and commented on a post by an X account, Pop Base:
“Who tf said “diss track”?????? don’t play tonight. Fix your tweet"
Both Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion are currently on their headlining tours. Minaj's Pink Friday 2 world tour concludes on October 11, while Megan's Hot Girl Summer tour will end on September 26.
