Record producer Richard Perry, 82, passed away on December 24, 2024. He gained recognition as the founder of the record label Planet Records and later served as an independent producer for successful projects such as Moonlight Serenade and Some Enchanted Evening.
Richard's personal life also grabbed a lot of attention over the years, specifically for his relationship with actress and activist, Jane Fonda. According to People magazine, the duo began dating in 2009 and separated in 2017.
Associated Press reported that Richard Perry's demise was first announced by his friend, Daphna Kastner. Daphna mentioned that Richard died from a cardiac arrest at a hospital in Los Angeles. She even paid tribute to Richard in a statement that read:
"He was generous, fun, sweet and made the world a better place. The world is a little less sweeter without him here. But it's a little bit sweeter in heaven."
Popular personalities took to various social media platforms to express their grief. Singer Leo Sayer shared a black-and-white photo on Facebook, where he was spotted alongside Perry. The caption read:
"I will always treasure the great legacy of music you passed on to me, and it's the gift I treasure most. We created some epic moments, and I know your spirit and influence will always be there in whatever music I make."
Richard Perry developed an interest in playing drums at an early age and even worked with a group called the Escorts, as reported by NPR. Apart from producing different songs throughout his career, he also wrote a memoir titled Cloud Nine.
According to Richard's website, he had worked at Warner Bros. Records as a staff producer in 1967 and had an opportunity to produce the projects of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald. While his company Planet Records was active many years ago, he worked with groups like Bates Motel, Sue Saad and the Next, and The Cretones.
Richard Perry and Jane Fonda were together for around eight years: Relationship and other details explained
Perry and Fonda's love story dates back to 2009 when the latter was recovering from her knee surgery. Jane addressed the same in an interview with The Sun back in July 2012, saying that she "welcomed a new man into her life" when she had the surgery and had to walk in crutches when they moved in together. Jane Fonda then talked about her relationship with Richard Perry as she said:
"The only thing I have never known is true intimacy. I absolutely wanted to discover that before dying. It has happened with Richard. I feel totally secure with him. Often, when we make love, I see him as he was 30 years ago."
The duo was residing together at a house in Beverly Hills with five bedrooms, as per People magazine. Although they separated in 2017, Jane and Richard did not share any statement about the same. However, a source for People magazine stated at the time that the split was "very amicable."
Richard Perry later confirmed the split as he spoke to Page Six in January 2017. He further stated that he had found another residence to stay as per his requirements but did not share any other details about the same. The duo's house was even put on sale and Fonda shed light on it in a video uploaded on Robb Report's YouTube channel on January 24, 2017. She was heard saying in the video:
"Richard and I must have looked at more than 30 houses and the day we pulled in through the gate into the front, I took one look at the house and I knew. I just knew."
Following their split, Richard Perry appeared for an interview with People magazine on January 25, 2017, saying that compared to other situations where a separation led to negativity, it was different for him and Jane Fonda.
"We continue to maintain a close friendship and care deeply about each other. Jane has rededicated herself to activism and I am finishing my memoirs. So all is well with the Fonda-Perry relationship. We're just starting a new chapter."
After Richard's passing, Jane had not shared any response at the time of publishing this article.
