Diddy, also known as Sean "Love" Combs, has been in the headlines after his arrest last month under charges of s*x trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution-related offenses. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A federal court has set May 5, 2025, as the trial date for the high-profile case. The decision was made by Judge Arun Subramanian during a hearing held on October 10, 2024, in New York City.
Arun Subramanian also gave an additional order restricting both sides from revealing anything that could influence the jury.
Notably, the new trial date was confirmed after Diddy's attorneys filed a motion claiming that the federal agents and prosecutors leaked the footage where Diddy was reportedly recorded assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
The footage, which was allegedly taken in 2016 at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, was first obtained by CNN in May this year.
Diddy's lawyers requested the judge to not display assault footage at the trial
Sean's legal team filed a motion a day before the hearing, requesting the judge to not show the above-mentioned CCTV video at the trial. The attorneys argued that any kind of leaks, including the footage, might prevent a fair trial for Sean.
"The leaks have resulted in damaging and highly prejudicial media coverage, particularly sensationalizing the investigation and the involvement of Mr. Combs' family," the lawyers explained.
On the other hand, federal prosecutors sent a letter to the judge, stating that they did not leak the assault footage. The letter claimed:
"The Government was not in possession of the video before its publication by CNN. Indeed, at the time of CNN's publication, the Government did not possess any video of the March 2016 incident."
The letter also mentioned that the defendants did not have anything to prove that the video was leaked by the prosecution.
Diddy's attorney reveals his condition inside the prison
Sean was taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn last month. Following his recent appearance at the court, the rapper's attorney Marc Agnifilo spoke to the reporters, addressing his client's condition inside prison and said:
"I think the food's probably the roughest part of it."
A source for People magazine also reported last month that Sean was being treated like others who have been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center. The source additionally mentioned that Diddy was worried for his kids and had a chance to speak to them alongside other family members on the phone.
Meanwhile, Sean's mother Janice Combs, and his children were present during the recent hearing. While speaking to People magazine, a source stated that Sean's children were "happy to support their father".
Combs’ lawyers have consistently tried to secure bail for their client. The defense even offered strict bail conditions that included a $50 million bond and his family members surrendering their passports. The prosecutors opposed the bail citing flight risk.
The music mogul has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest on September 19.
