In the wake of Liam Payne's death, which happened earlier this month on October 16, his fans from all over the world are appealing for a memorial to be erected in his hometown in England.

The petition for the former One Direction star started on Change.org last Tuesday, October 22, and has since been signed by over 3,100 fans across the globe, as of this writing. Payne was born and raised in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, completing both his schooling and college in the city.

The petition for Liam Payne's memorial came nearly a week after the singer fell from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Checked into the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, Liam was in the country for a vacation with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. Cassidy reportedly returned to Florida two days before the tragic fall accident occurred.

The petition for Liam Payne's memorial stated his artistry had "touched countless lives"

The petition for Liam Payne's memorial— which was started by a Eimear Mitchell— stated that the Both Ways singer's death had had a profound impact, not just on the One Direction community but on people worldwide.

The petition continued:

"Liam Payne's artistry has reached out and touched countless lives. His music was a harmonious blend of inspiration and comfort that resonated in the hearts of millions. His life and legacy deserve to be commemorated in a way that is as enduring as the light he imparted unto the world."

The petition further mentioned that the Strip That Down singer's memorial would ensure that he be remembered for generations as a reminder of the "incredible impact that individuals can make on the world."

The memorial would allow people from all over to "find a space to remember him and the joy his music brought" into their lives. Elsewhere, it proposed:

"We propose that the city, partnered with local artists, can create a memorial that reflects the spirit and essence of Liam Payne - his roots, his musical journey, and his incredible contribution to the international music community."

The petition to erect the 31-year-old's memorial comes days after fans advocated for a "Liam's Law."

Petition for Liam's Law started on October 18

Two days after Liam Payne's death, a fan named Day Kv started a petition on Change.org for Liam's Law— a law that would "safeguard" the mental health and well-being of artists in the entertainment industry.

The fan wrote in the petition:

"In 2021 Liam advocated for a support system to be put in place for young artists’ going through the industry. He spoke about his own struggles and the need for there to be care in place to safeguard artists' mental health."

Pointing out that the industry had "let him down," the fan expressed anger and sadness over it, and claimed that they started the petition to channel their emotions "into something productive."

They also stated that the goal of the petition was to implore lawmakers to create a law that would offer regular mental health check-ups for artists, with enough rest periods in between work. It would also mandate the presence of mental health professionals on the sets to offer them support in their careers.

It further added:

"It will ensure a healthier, safer, and more conducive working environment for artists to cultivate their talents reducing psychological distress. This would also include early interventions to protect and minimise before it's too late."

So far, the petition has received over 1,28,000 signatures, which means it will be discussed in the parliament, as reported by Daily Mail.

According to the autopsy report of Liam Payne, prosecutors of Argentina claim that the former One Director member might have had a "psychotic episode" at the time of his death due to the illegal substances he had taken.
