On Wednesday, December 2024, Beyoncé performed the Halftime Show between two NFL Christmas Day games live-streamed on Netflix—the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers (starting at 1 p.m. ET), followed by the Ravens-Texans game (4:30 p.m. ET).
Per Variety, the Daddy Lessons singer was also going to bring along a special guest during her performance, with fans speculating Miley Cyrus to be the one.
While Miley was one of Beyoncé's collaborators on her latest album, Cowboy Carter, the Flowers singer didn't join her in Houston yesterday. Miley's absence disappointed her fans, many of whom took to X to express their disappointment. One netizen wrote:
"That Beyonce performance was trash. Where’s Miley? Miley's a real performer and known all around the globe unlike her… BAD AF."
Some netizens were surprised to see Post Malone join the Savage singer in place of Cyrus.
"me dragging Miley Cyrus to texas so Beyoncé can perform the halftime show again but with II Most Wanted this time," commented one X user.
"no Miley Cyrus for Beyoncé Bowl," wrote another.
"Smilers who were expecting Miley to perform with Beyonce today," posted a third fan, with a clown face emoji added at the end.
Meanwhile, others called Miley "a real performer," claiming that her absence affected the show negatively.
"you could’ve sung with miley instead of post but alas," added a fourth user.
"miley pisses me off cause i know damn well if beyonce had everyone there she definitely asked miley and her a*s turned it down girl fck you," wrote a fifth one.
"So Beyonce could bring out Post Malone but not Miley Cyrus...," commented a sixth user.
Miley Cyrus' absence from the Beyoncé Bowl comes weeks after she released her ballad Beautiful That Way—a track recorded for the Gia Coppola movie, The Last Showgirl. The song has been nominated for Best Original Song in the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.
Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus collaborated on II Most Wanted
When Beyoncé dropped her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter, in March 2024, Miley Cyrus was one of the guest artists on it, with the duo having collaborated on II Most Wanted.
The country song, which peaked at number 6 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, soon became a radio hit. It is also nominated for the Best Country Duo/Group Performance in the upcoming 2025 Grammys. The track's lyrical video has received over 8 million views on YouTube so far.
According to a Mashable article published on December 25, Cyrus was not the only candidate who could join the 43-year-old on the NFL stage. Among other possible contenders for the gig was Shaboozey, who collaborated on two Cowboy Carter tracks with Queen Bey—Sweet Honey Buckiin and Spaghetti.
The Nashville artists—Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts, Tiera Kennedy, and Brittney Spencer—were also in the running for accompanying the 43-year-old at the halftime show. The country singers joined Bey in creating the cover of the 1968 track by The Beatles—Blackbird.
However, ultimately, the artists who joined the Deja Vu singer in her Halftime performance were Shaboozey and Post Malone.
Shaboozey performed Sweet Honey Buckiin alongside the 43-year-old, while Malone joined for the live rendition of Leviis Jeans. The singer also brought out her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, during the set.
Queen Bey's Halftime performance was nearly 13 minutes long, where she performed the songs from her latest album live for the first time.
After the live-streaming NFL games ended on Netflix, the streaming platform announced that on-demand access to the Beyoncé Bowl will be released as a stand-alone special later this week, Variety reported.
