Ariana Grande has gained plenty of success in her career as a singer-songwriter in the last 11 years. As she continues reaching new heights, she also remembers to give back to the community.
Over the years, Ari has made sizeable donations and charitable efforts towards raising money for various causes, including the first responders in the COVID pandemic, the BLM movement, and survivors of the Manchester bombings.
Ariana Grande's collaborative song raised $3.5 million for charity amidst the COVID pandemic
In 2020, amidst the ongoing COVID pandemic, Ariana Grande co-wrote a lockdown-inspired song with her close friend and fellow singer, Justin Bieber, called Stuck With U. The duo also collaborated on the track, which was released on May 8, 2020.
Prior to the song's release, the singers shared on their respective social media handles that all the revenue generated from its streams and sales would be donated to the First Responders Children's Foundation - a charity set up during COVID to provide grants and scholarships to the children of the first responders who suffered a COVID diagnosis.
Stuck With U was an immediate commercial success, peaking on the US Hot 100 Billboard chart soon after its release. Three months later, Variety noted that it had raised over $3.5 million for the charity. Jillian Crane, the foundation's president, told Variety:
"The generosity, and support that Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun have shown the men and women on the front lines of this ongoing pandemic has been a surreal and humbling experience for us."
Besides the track, the Positions singer also took individual steps in order to support those who suffered during the pandemic. According to Buzzfeed News, Ari took to her Instagram story in March 2020, listing down the names of the charity organizations she was supporting in the face of COVID-19, saying:
"while we are social distancing and doing the best we can to protect one another, my heart hurts for the small businesses, individuals, and families affected by all of this. I'm supporting the organizations below and if you are able to, you should too."
Ariana Grande named Opportunity Fund, Give Directly, Feeding America, Croce Rossa Italiana, and the WHO's COVID-19 solidarity response fund.
Another cause that's close to her heart is the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement. In May 2020, Grande joined the peaceful BLM march in Los Angeles in the wake of George Floyd's death, the photos and videos of which went viral on social media soon afterward.
According to Billboard, Ari also shared pictures of herself in the protest march on her since-deleted X handle. It was Grande's attempt to draw the media's attention towards peaceful protests, as opposed to the violent ones that were being covered by all news outlets.
The 7 Rings singer captioned her tweet:
"Hours and miles of peaceful protesting yesterday that got little to no coverage. all throughout beverly hills and west hollywood we chanted, people beeped and cheered along. we were passionate, we were loud, we were loving. cover this too please."
Grande also included links to the Los Angeles Action Bail Fund in her tweets, urging fans to donate to the same.
Ariana Grande sent Christmas presents to Manchester Hospital three years in a row
Ariana Grande was a part of the 2017 Manchester bombing in a way no other celebrity was, which is why the cause remains closest to her heart, even years after it took place.
Ari's first response to help the survivors of the tragedy was putting together the One Love Manchester benefit concert, in which many other celebrities - including Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Victoria Monét, and Coldplay among others - participated.
With over 50,000 people attending the concert despite the recent tragedy, as well as its live streams across various global streaming platforms, the concert raised $24 million for the bombing survivors. Ariana Grande also received an honorary citizen status from the city of Manchester following her "selfless deed" towards its citizens.
Following the incident, the Wicked actress donated Christmas presents to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital charity three years in a row. Tanya Hamid, the interim director of the charity, thanked Grande for her thoughtful gesture, further adding:
"It’s so wonderful that Ariana has once again been so thoughtful and made this special donation to our family of hospitals."
The charity works towards improving the research, care, and treatment provided to young patients at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
