Alicia Keys announced her endorsement of Kamala Harris for the upcoming United States presidential elections. Keys is married to hip-hop artist and music producer Kasseem Dean a.k.a. Swizz Beatz. The singer and the hip-hop artist tied the knot in 2010 following around two years of dating. The couple share two boys, 14-year-old Egypt Daoud Dean and 9-year-old Genesis Ali Dean.
On Saturday, November 2, the If I Ain't Got You hitmaker took to her social media platforms and announced her support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. On the same day, Keys also joined Michelle Obama during a Pennsylvania rally for Kamala Harris, touching upon the topic of women's rights and reproductive freedom. She said during the event:
"If you don’t vote for her, or you don’t vote at all, you’re voting for the chaos and the hate,"
In her posts on Facebook and Instagram endorsing Kamala Harris, Keys wrote that she wanted people to make a promise to themselves and each other to "speak up" with all the courage they have. The singer added:
"Because right now, over 29 million Americans of reproductive age are living without the right to control their bodies, lives, and futures. It’s time to be heard!"
Keys also released a video in which she announced that nobody was going to tell anybody what she needed except her. The singer told people that they were the only ones who knew what they needed, and warned people that if they weren't going to speak up, "they" were not going to consider them.
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz share 2 children together
Alicia Keys first met her husband Swizz Beatz via a mutual high school friend when she was only 14 and he was 16. In her 2020 memoir, 'More Myself' Alicia Keys revealed that she initially wanted nothing to do with Beatz or the scene he was involved in.
However, as the duo attained mutual success, they started being at the same social events, and in 2008, the duo reconnected through a collaborative project. This led to a whirlwind romance and the couple dated for around two years before Beatz proposed in 2010. They tied the knot in July of the same year at a private ceremony in Corsica. Keys wrote in her memoir:
"The more we talked the more I noticed how his mind worked. Beyond the baggy jeans and arm tats there was depth. He was so aware of what was happening in the world,"
Swizz Beatz is a successful Bronx music producer with a whopping six Grammy nominations. Beatz even won the award alongside Jay-Z for the track On To The Next One.
The DJ-turned-music producer kickstarted his successful career by selling the beat to DMX's 1998 hit Ruff Ryders' Anthem. Ever since he has collaborated with a slew of prominent artists including Whitney Houston, Beyonce, and Lil Wayne.
Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz welcomed their first child together, Egypt Daoud Dean, on October 14, 2010. Egypt followed in his parents' footsteps from a very young age, writing his first song Super-Boy when he was only 6-years-old in 2016. The now 14-year-old even received producer credit for Kendrick Lamar's 2016 project Untitled Unmastered.
Egypt, also a skilled piano player, made his long-awaited stage debut alongside his mother during the 2019 iHeart Radio Music Awards, where the duo performed a rendition of Alicia Keys' 2019 track Raise a Man. In a 2022 Instagram post on Egypt's 12th birthday, Swizz Beatz even called his son a "mastermind of a creative".
Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys welcomed their second son, Genesis Ali Dean on December 27, 2014. The 9-year-old appears frequently on the social media handles of both his parents. He is also a big fan of Taylor Swift, whom he met for the first time when he was only 4 years old at the 2019 iHeart Radio Music Awards.
Genesis followed in his older brother's footsteps and also made his stage debut alongside his mother, aged only 6 when he joined her on stage for an encore during her 2021 performance of This is For Him at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Keys had previously revealed on 'More Myself' that her pregnancy with Genesis came as a surprise and at the "worst time ever".
Alicia Keys also co-parents Swizz Beatz's three older children from previous relationships. This includes Prince Nasir Dean, 24, who Beatz shares with former partner Nicole Levy, Kasseem Dean Jr., 17, who he shares with ex-wife Mashonda Tifrere, and his only daughter Nicole Dean, 16, who he shares with singer Jahna Sebastian.
