DJ Gary O, a well-known radio personality who worked with Power 99FM and Dell Music Center, has died. The news of Gary's demise started going public on Thursday, December 19, 2024, and social media platforms were also flooded with tributes.
DJ Jazzy Jeff shared an Instagram post on Thursday, expressing grief over Gary's death. In his post, Jeff included a few photos of Gary posing with different groups. Another picture featured Gary playing somewhere at an event. Jeff wrote in the caption:
"You were my OG…for 40 plus years…you were there from my start…you traveled around the globe with me…Miami LA Dubai…you DJed my wedding…You were my friend…I lost Biz…Clark Kent now you…I'm crushed right now…Thank You go for everything…You will always be be legendary."
Netizens took to the post's comments section to share their tributes, with most of them writing that they would pray for Gary's family. One person said that he learned a lot of things related to DJing from DJ Gary O.
Gary's followers have also been sharing tribute posts on his Facebook timeline. People close to Gary recalled his work over the years, with many praising the impact he left at any event.

According to DJ Gary O's Facebook page, he lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a long time. He completed his education at Bishop McDevitt High School, and the check-in list revealed that he possibly played at various locations such as Harrah's, Wilson's Restaurant, and Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
According to Uptown Standard, DJ Gary O previously worked at Gotham Night Club in Philadelphia. The newspaper also described him as one of the busiest DJs since he was always booked until the end of the year.
While speaking to the newspaper in 2021, Gary said that during his teenage days, he had witnessed DJ Cool B playing at his favorite spot, Calico Kitchen. He even addressed his early days by saying:
"I grew up with Derrel Jones; he and I went to Bishop McDevitt High School. I started DJ'ing at the school's gym with Galaxy 5; Derrel Jones was a member of Galaxy 5. Cosmic Kev is from Uptown, and he is my blood cousin, Parry P; we had a group called Grandmasters of Funk."
During the conversation, DJ Gary O disclosed that he worked as a radio DJ at Power 99FM from 1993 to 2004 and served a similar position at the Dell Music Center for almost seven years. He further said that WDAS legend Lawrence Lavon mostly influenced his work.
"He was the king of playing music, when it comes to mixing, he mentored him. I created my own lane to be known as a party DJ; I'm a blender, not a scratcher. At a party they don't want you to scratch, a party is a party."
DJ Gary O even recalled the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that although he suffered some loss, his supporters on Facebook Live helped him a lot since he was able to sell around 900 shirts at locations such as Australia and Brazil.
Gary mentioned in the conversation that he had never had an opportunity to meet celebrities such as Beyoncé and Jay-Z. He even addressed his events, saying that he mostly uses the Internet and social media platforms to ensure their success.
