Linkin Park revealed Emily Armstrong as their new co-vocalist during a live performance event on September 3, 2024. This news created a buzz as the group is set to release a new album titled From Zero. They will also go on a tour in support of the upcoming project, which will start in Los Angeles on September 11.
The latest updates of the band arrived around seven years after the death of Chester Bennington, who served as their lead singer. Emily Armstrong is mostly known as the co-founder of another rock band, Dead Sara, which includes Siouxsie Medley and Sean Friday.
While speaking to the Associated Press on September 6, Linkin Park member Mike Shinoda stated that they witnessed "world-class talents" while working with Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, who joined the group last year.
Shinoda highlighted:
"We feel really empowered with this new lineup and the vibrant and energized new music we've made together. We're weaving together the sonic touchpoints we've been known for and still exploring new ones."
Moreover, the band's From Zero album is slated to be released through Warner Records on November 15, 2024. It is currently available for pre-order. Shinoda explained the title of the album, saying that it refers to the beginning and the band's new journey ahead. He further stated:
"Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future – embracing our signature sound but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead."
Emily Armstrong has gained recognition for her association with Dead Sara over the years
Emily Armstrong's career dates back to the time when she was a child. While speaking to The Salt Lake Tribune in July 2012, the Los Angeles, California native revealed that she was gifted a guitar on her 12th birthday due to which she developed an interest in music.
Armstrong became familiar with the work of artists like Stevie Nicks as she grew up and developed a close friendship with Siouxsie Medley, leading to the formation of Dead Sara in 2002. They began working on various projects around two years later and performed at various locations.
Although their debut album was not released for almost 10 years, Dead Sara launched a record label called Pocket Kid Records. Their self-titled album was released in 2012 and the singles included in the soundtrack received a positive response.
The group then dropped two more albums, Pleasure to Meet You and Ain't It Tragic. They also had four EPs in their credits and additionally became famous for multiple singles, including Lemon Scent, Unamerican, Anybody, and Hands Up.
In an interview with Genre Is Dead! on September 14, 2021, Emily Armstrong said that it was not easy to be a part of a band and make music. She also stated:
"Our [Dead Sara] first album was kind of successful right off the bat. When all that starts to fade and you go to your second album, and you find a new label and it's not the same, that's when you start to look at it as a job instead of as fun. That's the hard part because you want to separate them completely."
Armstrong added that she loved her band and learned in the past that even if the results didn't exceed their expectations, they'd be proud of their achievements.
Emily Armstrong opens up on her journey to being a part of the Linkin Park
The 38-year-old Emily is now an official member of Linkin Park. In an interview with Billboard on September 5, 2024, Emily Armstrong shared more details on how she became a part of the group. She recalled the time when she was inside the studio with the Linkin Park band members and had a brief chat.
Armstrong recalled that the band members told her they'd have some shows in their upcoming lineup where she could sing a few of their old songs. She added that the band said that they loved what she did. She addressed her reaction by saying:
"I'm just like, 'Cool, coo coo coo cool!' I had already talked to the people around me, and Dead Sara, who were like, 'Absolutely. If they ask, it's a no-brainer.' I'd already put my feelers out just to make sure, and they were putting their feelers out on me."
Emily Armstrong further said that she went to the studio for another time, where they worked for additional hours. She continued:
"I remember we were there late that night, and afterward I was panicking in the best way: 'Is it real?' For three days at least, I don't ever remember touching the ground. And then everything was different when I came back down – knowing my life was going to be different, in the best way."
Emily Armstrong will also participate in Linkin Park's upcoming 'From Zero World Tour', which will end on November 11, 2024, in Bogota. A detailed poster was shared on the group's Instagram account on September 6.
