Who was Evelyn Thomas? All you need to know was ‘High Energy’ singer dies aged 70

Evelyn Thomas was an American singer-songwriter who made music in the disco subgenre of Hi-NRG. The singer made music primarily in the late 1970s to early 2000s and later went on to form her own company, Eljopan Entertainment, incorporated in 2009.

Evelyn Thomas died of undisclosed cause at the age of 70 on July 21, 2024, in Port Charlotte, Florida. The announcement of her death was made by Ian Levine, the English songwriter who first discovered Thomas in 1975. The announcement was made by Levine through a post on his official X page on July 21, 2024:

Mourning the loss of the singer-songwriter and his protege, Levine wrote about meeting her in 1975 and continuing to work with her in the subsequent years before becoming estranged due to the death of their mutual friend Clive Scott, reconnecting only in the months before her death:

"But from 1998, we never recorded again. Evelyn came to London to stay with me and we produced songs three songs with my production partner Clive Scott and me. Shortly after that, in fact mere weeks later, Clive died in a tragic terrible accident. One of those three new songs 'Pounding The Pavements' still remains unreleased to this day"

The producer continued:

"We were then estranged for a further fifteen more years, but then a couple of months ago, knowing that she was dying, she reached out to me in love...It is hard for me to accept that my lifelong protege really has left us."

Evelyn Thomas' daughter Kimberly Thomas mourns her loss

Evelyn Thomas's loss was mourned by her daughter Kimberly Thomas, who posted a tribute to her late mother on her official Facebook page on July 21, 2024:

"They called me and I wasn’t available so they called my husband and they gave him the news. she’s gone. The legacy that my mother left me is beyond words and the memories are undeniably beyond any monetary value. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and kind words. Now it’s time to heal and to plan.Evelyn Thomas is already missed. RIP mommy."

Although the cause of her death has not been revealed as of the writing of this article, Evelyn Thomas struggled with cancer, which Kimberly revealed in a YouTube video on June 7, 2024:

The nature and type of cancer afflicting the late singer were not revealed by her daughter in the above video. It is not known how long the singer was actually suffering from cancer.

The late started her career with the single Weak Spot in 1976, breaking into the UK singles chart and peaking at number 26 after its release. This was followed by Doomsday, which charted at number 46 on the same chart.

The late singer released her debut album, I Wanna Make It on My Own, Casablanca Records in 1978. Subsequently, she switched to AVI Records and released Have a Little Faith in Me in 1979. Her last two studio albums, High Energy, and Standing at the Crossroads, were released by Record Shack label in 1984 and 1986 respectively.

In addition to the studio albums, the late singer released two compilation albums, The Best of Evelyn Thomas, in 1991 and High Energy: The Best of Evelyn Thomas, in 2000. The singer's latest music was a single titled Stick to the Plan, released in 2008.
