Chappell Roan is currently a musical sensation, but her unique fashion sets Roan apart beyond her music. From her iconic Statue of the Liberty look from Governors Ball to her Swan Lake ensemble on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show, Chappell Roan never ceases to surprise, and her stylist, Genesis Webb, is to thank for that.
Genesis Webb was born in Phoenix and moved around the country in her early years before her family finally settled in Oklahoma City, which she considers home. Besides her avant-garde sense of fashion, Webb's midwestern sensibility is yet another factor that helped her connect with the Missouri native Chappell Roan, as reported by Vogue.
Roan and Webb first met on the sets of a Formichetti editorial, where the duo bonded over their Midwestern roots and love for thrifting and vintage stuff. A week later, Genesis joined Chappell Roan's team as a stylist.

Genesis Webb has transformed her garage into her workspace
Like Genesis Webb's sense of style, her career was also quite out of the ordinary. In a 2024 Vogue interview, Genesis Webb revealed that she started her career as a freelance thrift seller on Tumblr.
"I got weirdly popular on Tumblr when I was 14. I just knew what to do. I started selling thrifted clothes in 2014, and I made that a career. Within a year or two, I was fully freelance, and then I started a jewelry brand from that."
Six years later, Genesis Webb got out of a bad relationship, deciding to move to LA amidst the pandemic, where she found herself isolated. Webb recalled moving to LA alone and being on her last leg of money within a month. She had credit card debt and decided she needed to do something about her situation.
In the past, many people had encouraged her to pursue styling because of her knowledge of fashion, which she dove into next. She shared how she decided to single-mindedly pursue being a stylist. She followed "every stylist in the world" on Instagram and had her first job with Davey Sutton within a week.
In an August 2024 interview with Service95, Genesis described her workspace, which she has set up in her garage, as "wholeheartedly intuitive."
"I often create a headspace of tumult to put myself in a place where I have no choice but to decide without excessive thought. I like to allow the spirit to flow the way it needs to without my ego involved."
Webb added:
"A lot of the times on set I have oversight of all creative – hair, makeup and set, etc – this includes editorial but also performances. If I think about the big picture, the entire story, the details come together the way they almost are forced to. Sometimes, it doesn't even really feel like I am choosing. Mistakes turn into holy grails."
Chappell Roan and Genesis Webb challenge each other
Talking to Vogue about what working with Chappell Roan was like in 2024, Genesis Webb stated how the duo challenged each other to think beyond their personal tastes, saying:
"She obviously loves drag and comes from a more glam drag background, where I loved the club kid scene. Coming from a punk scene is just a little harsher. She taught me just that glam and color and glitter can be just as avant-garde and just as high fashion as anything."
The stylist then recalled her first time watching the Femininomenon singer perform live at the Wiltern in LA, adding:
"It was so important for me to see a couple thousand people in full dress-up costume to go and hang out in a very queer space together and watch someone that gives their all for the performance and then also cultivates the space of safety."
As Chappell Roan's fame has evolved this year, so has Genesis Webb's role in her team. The 26-year-old now works as a fashion creative director, working closely with Roan to come up with concepts together and making decks for "everything including make and hair inspiration."
Webb is currently accompanying Chappell Roan as she is about to kickstart the European leg of The Midwest Princess Tour next week. The duo will return to the US in September, concluding the tour on October 11, 2024.
