Rapper Hurricane Chris, whose real name is Christopher Jerrod Dooley Jr., took to his social media on August 18 and posted a video of himself criticizing hip-hop icon 50 Cent for not inviting Louisiana rappers to his bygone Humor & Harmony Festival, but rather donating money to the local police.
“You threw a motherf*cking concert in Louisiana and didn’t book no Louisiana legends, didn’t put no bankroll in any Louisiana legends’ pockets, but you paid the police half a million dollars. What kind of b*tch a*s sh*t is that?” Chris addressed 50 Cent.
Dooley went on to say that Fif contributed $500, 000 to Shreveport law enforcement where the festival was held, adding that it could have been spent on more meaningful purposes such as helping the youth, preventing crimes, and promoting education.
He further claimed that Fif completely ignored the likes of himself, Boosie, and Lil Webbie among other Louisiana rappers, and didn’t bother to invite them, alleging that 50 Cent “came and bought” his hometown.
As soon as 50 Cent caught the wind of Hurricane Chris’ allegations, he took to the latter’s Instagram post and wrote in the comment section:
"Hurricane Flex boy ya sh*t is wack, the f*ck you think you @FredoBang ya sh*t gets no play in my ride. LOL."
Notably, contrary to Hurricane Chris’ claims, several Louisiana performers were part of Fif’s annual festival, including Master P, Big Fella Zil, Flamefari, and Fredo Bang, among others.
Hurricane Chris dropped out of school to pursue music
Hurricane Chris was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in February 1989. He began writing music at the age of 10 and performed at his school events and talent shows. Later, he dropped out of high school in 2007 to pursue music as a career.
He soon released back-to-back music comprising of mixtapes such as You Hear Me? and Louisi-Animal as well as singles including A Bay Bay (peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 list) and The Hand Clap among others.
Later that year, Hurricane Chris dropped his debut studio album 51/50 Ratchet which debuted at number 24 on the Billboard 200 chart. In late 2009, he released his second album, Unleashed, which also charted at numbers 46 and 20 on two of Billboard’s lists.
Over the years, Hurricane Chris has collaborated with artists including the Game, Lil Boosie, E-40, Baby, Angie Locc, Jadakiss, Mario, Plies, Hitmaka, Ty Dolla Sign and more. He also released a lot of music during this time, such as Headboy, Sections, Hurricane Season, Ratchet, Caniac, Bend It Over, and Halle Berry (She’s Fine).
The now-35-year-old has an estimated net worth of $300, 000, as per Celebrity Net Worth. Hurricane Chris also owns a record label called 51/50 Entertainment or Fyrehouse Entertainment.
Hurricane Chris has previously accused 50 Cent of exploiting his hometown
Apart from his recent video accusing 50 Cent of not inviting him and other Louisiana rappers to the Humor & Harmony Festival in Shreveport earlier this month, Hurricane Chris also took to X to further his allegations.
“When I got my deal, I saw Shreveport was a place that was looked at like a cheap investment but we still protected our home front to make sure we would keep what’s ours. The city is using 50 Cent to make the city money, not the people. Half a mill[ion] on police Yu just fed the beast,” he claimed.
In a follow-up post, he further threw shots at Fif reminding him that Shreveport did not need concerts but rather people like himself who “defend” the residents and their “rights.”
Notably, this is not the first time Chris has called out 50 Cent. Last month, he accused the Queens rapper of being involved with his hometown, “misleading” the community and its culture, and not showing the “respect” they deserve.
“To hear people like 50 Cent come and say no more ratchet in my city is confusing,” Hurricane added.
As per reports, Hurricane Chris is currently planning to sue the Shreveport Police Department for failing to properly investigate his second-degree murder charge related to the 2020 shooting of Danzeria Farris, and seek compensation for the damages incurred.
